I have seen the videos of Gloucester County Republicans mocking Chinese, Hindu, and now Sikh communities. This deplorable conduct is unbecoming of any candidate or officeholder. Martino Cartier, Katherine Falcone, and Barbara McCormick should immediately and unequivocally apologize to the people of Gloucester County and beyond for this continued smearing of ethnic and religious minorities.

It is a shame that, in this day and age, I would even have to issue a statement like this. But we must call out all forms of bigotry and xenophobia.

You can have the best teachers, the best curriculum, and the best resources, but a hungry child will have a harder time focusing on learning and participating in class.

As a public school educator, I am thrilled to see Speaker Craig J. Coughlin ’s proposal to provide free breakfast to every student in New Jersey’s public schools, regardless of family income.

Every child deserves to walk into school ready to learn. No child should have to do so on an empty stomach.
