Yesterday, NYS Senator Jake Ashby visited with the 9th grade government class to discuss his role in the Senate. After previously learning about his legislative priorities and bills he has supported or opposed, students prepared questions to better understand his position on health care, education, energy and environmental issues, and more. Senator Ashby spent nearly an hour answering their questions, and we appreciate him taking the time to visit our students during a busy election season.

Auto Services, Auto Tech, HVAC, and Electrical Trades students at Robert H. Gibson Technical School recently met Chad Saddlemire from the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) to learn about programs and opportunities with the school. He shared how further education and specialized training can help students achieve their career goals. Our CTE programs strive to expose students to both continued education and career pathways so they can make informed decisions about their futures.

Last week, New Visions: Business, Finance, and Marketing students visited Ginsberg's Foods for a facility tour and panel discussion with the company's business leaders. Students explored how teamwork, customer service, safety, and efficient operations help the foodservice distributor serve more than 2,500 customers. Students will have more opportunities to explore Ginsberg's through upcoming job-shadowing experiences, gaining more insight into their operations and day to day responsibilities. Special thanks to Ginsberg's Foods president and COO John Brusie and his team for making this opportunity a reality.

Over the past two weeks, some students at George Washington School have been learning what it means to be a community and exploring different types of communities. To wrap up their study of urban communities, Ms. Hollingsworth's class worked together to design their own city, complete with skyscrapers and tall buildings!

In their designs, the border colors represent the bottom of each building, while the colors inside show what can be found on the upper floors.

Students listened to one another’s ideas, shared their creativity, and worked as a team to bring their city to life.

Last week, Questar III BOCES alumni Aaron Jackson (2013) and Ian French (2015) visited Construction and HVAC students at Donald R. Kline Technical School. Jackson and French, who both attended the Construction program, now work at National Grid. They shared what a typical day looks like (there isn't one!), how they got started, their career journey, and how to get started with National Grid. They also walked students around their truck and showed them the different tools they use every day.

It's always great to have our alumni back in and see what they're doing! Thank you both for taking the time to speak with our current students.
