Students from Mrs. Pool and Ms. Young’s class participated in a hands-on Halloween candy activity that combined sorting, classifying, counting, and graphing. Using a variety of “Bones” candies, students sorted items by shape. They then counted each category and represented their findings in a graph. Students practiced comparing quantities, identifying the most and least common categories, and answering questions about the data they collected.

This engaging, seasonal activity connected mathematical concepts to real-world experiences while encouraging students to think critically, communicate their reasoning, and learn through exploration. Students had opportunities to make predictions, recognize patterns, solve problems, and explain their thinking to peers.
