A reminder from Hickman County EMA:

With so many activities happening around the county, we ask everyone to slow down and pay extra attention while driving, especially in neighborhoods, parking lots, and around event locations.

🚗 Watch for children who may step into the roadway unexpectedly. Excited kids don’t always remember to look both ways.

🔦 Make sure costumes are visible after dark. Flashlights and reflective materials can help.

👨‍👩‍👧 Keep younger children close and use crosswalks when available.

🚨 Be mindful of emergency vehicles, pedestrians, and traffic around events.

🍬 Parents, check your children’s candy before they enjoy it.

We appreciate all the churches, volunteer organizations, first responders, and community members who put in the time and effort to make these events possible for our families.

Let’s all do our part to make sure everyone has a fun Halloween and gets home safely.

If we missed an event happening in Hickman County, please add the information or flyer in the comments so we can help spread the word!

Have a safe and happy Halloween from Hickman County Emergency Management! 🎃

🔥 Hickman County EMA – Outdoor Burning Reminder

With the dry conditions we've been experiencing across Hickman County, we want to remind everyone to be extra cautious with outdoor burning.

According to today's National Weather Service briefing, we aren't expecting much, if any, rainfall through the end of October. Drought conditions are expected to worsen, increasing the risk of brush and wildfires.

🍂 A few things to keep in mind:

• Tennessee's burn permit season runs from October 15 through May 15.
• Burn permits are free but are only issued when conditions allow.
• Even a small brush fire can spread quickly in these dry conditions.
• Please consider holding off on burning leaves, brush, or debris until we get some much-needed rain.
• Never leave a fire unattended, and always have water available.

🔥 Before you burn, check whether permits are being issued and make sure you have one if required.

Burn permit information:
https://www.tn.gov/tnwildlandfire/prevention/safe-debris-burning/permits.html

We've already seen how quickly fires can spread in dry conditions. Our local fire departments have been responding to brush fires, and we'd like to prevent as many unnecessary calls as possible.

Please use good judgment and help us keep Hickman County safe.

Hickman County EMA would like to recognize and congratulate the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office on receiving a generous donation from SIG SAUER and Shawn Ryan of the Shawn Ryan Show

This significant contribution includes 30 SIG SAUER ri**es equipped with red dot sights and suppressors, along with 30 tactical medical kits.

Having the proper equipment, training, and resources is essential to keeping our first responders prepared to protect and serve our communities. The addition of these medical kits is especially valuable, providing deputies with lifesaving resources when every second counts.

We appreciate SIG SAUER and Shawn Ryan for their generosity and commitment to supporting local law enforcement.

When our first responders are better equipped and prepared, our entire community benefits.

Congratulations to the Hickman County Sheriff's Office, and thank you to everyone who continues to invest in the safety and preparedness of Hickman County!

💀☂️ Looks like Hickman County EMA has a new employee hanging around the Centerville Square!

He showed up for work, grabbed his emergency preparedness sign, and hasn't moved a bone since. 😂

He's a little thin, doesn't say much, and we're pretty sure he's been waiting on FEMA reimbursement for a few decades!

We're just hoping the next strong wind doesn't blow him clear out of the county! 🌬️🤣

His message is simple: Don't be scared, be prepared!

Now we need your help naming him! Drop your funniest name suggestions in the comments. 🎃💀
