I've read the comments on my first post and understand your desire for immediate replies, but I've had to travel for a family emergency that has temporarily taken my focus from social media.

I have no hesitation in standing on my record of serving Monroe, with integrity.

As a coach, I've helped generations of youths become better people, and I have helped several go on to college who may not have been able.

On the council, I have led battles for investments to improve our city, many that still pay benefits:

--The Aquatic Center was built with minimal public investment with a mission to be affordable for all residents.
--The expansion of the Monroe airport has brought in more than $1 billion of economic growth. This means real jobs and exponential growth in our tax base. Our airport is one of few of its size with a U.S. Customs office, which makes it a great option for corporate planes to travel to the Charlotte area. This is a major factor in drawing industry to our area.
--I pushed for years for an investment in the Center Theatre, finally getting the votes to approve millions in the project to show the level of commitment that the space deserves. It's a risk, certainly, but I'm normally optimistic. I see this as one spark our downtown needs for a thriving nightlife.
--As I mentioned, I'm in favor of changes to make downtown friendlier for pedestrians. I'd like to see some of our one-way streets converted to two-way, which should slow traffic. I'm in favor of closing the portion of Morgan Street near Main to make it a pedestrian way and draw business.

I'm unapologetic about offering a phone number for a one-on-one conversation. I've worked in business and government successfully for years by seeing eye-to-eye and not solely through typing on a device.

I'll be out of pocket on an overdue family vacation the next two weeks but look forward to seeing you at the candidates forum at month's end at East Frank Superette. I'm always happy to share ideas about how to improve my lifelong home. Thanks for caring for our city.

I seek your support to help keep Monroe growing while remaining a great place to live. I’m a lifelong resident who has served the city either on its council or as mayor for the past 38 years.

I have backed projects such as the Monroe Aquatic Center, the airport expansion and its nearby business park, and the re-opening of the Center Theatre on Main Street.

I support a reworking of traffic flow downtown to benefit pedestrians and improve business. I also support improving Morgan St. make downtown more inviting.

I seek your vote Nov. 5 for city council. If you have questions or ideas to help, feel free to call me at the number listed on this page.
