BREAKING: MAGA Senator Thom Tillis stabs Donald Trump in the back and announces that he will not support a simple-majority vote to change the Senate’s rules to help speed up the confirmations of 160 pending MAGA nominees.
Tillis isn't running for reelection so he has far less to fear...
“I just generally don’t go nuclear," said Tillis.
The so-called nuclear option is the use of simple-majority votes to create new precedents. It can be used to circumvent the 67 votes needed to change Senate rules.
Tillis added that "if we do this, then that means the new bar for rules [changes] is a simple majority" rather than the 67 votes.
Democrats have demanded that the nominees — which Trump is desperate to ram through to further entrench his power amidst growing scandals and plummeting popularity — go through time intensive votes for even low-level picks.
Trump loyalist senators have been batting around the idea of eliminating the hours of debate time required between cloture votes and final votes. They've also suggested packaging less important nominees for block confirmation votes.
To pass any of these rules changes, Republicans would need at least 51 votes on the Senate floor and Democrats won't support the motion, meaning that defections like Tills make it unlikely to succeed.

Besides candidates, we will also be voting on a state constitutional amendment. "Our current state constitution already ensures the freedom to vote for 'every person born in the United States and every person who has been naturalized.'d This attempt to change it reveals that too many of our elected leaders would rather divide than serve their constituents." Please read the information below about the implications of this amendment and vote "Against." https://democracync.org/news/efforts-to-silence-our-voices-and-distort-our-constitution-vote-no-on-the-citizens-only-amendment/?fbclid=IwY2xjawFtHLNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHTliNN0Vw7wpcT27qsWx7svVsajYeXPjNIZi22IJauvzjiuYKOrnpr6qLA_aem_Igm1AGSk9Jg5spAt1zuuSQ
Efforts to Silence Our Voices and Distort Our Constitution: Vote “No” on the Citizens-Only Amendment - Democracy NC
MORRISVILLE, N.C. (09.18.24) – Democracy North Carolina calls on voters to reject the proposed “Citizens-Only” constitutional amendment in this year’s general election. We see this ballot measure for what it is: an attempt by certain politicians to spread lies about immigrants and voting so ...

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

Join me -- and bring every Gastonia citizen you know -- at the City of Gastonia public hearing July 16, 6 p.m. at the Gaston County Commission chambers at the courthouse.
The public hearing is about holding a referendum on Ward-only voting for the Gastonia Council. The change came about in SB 169 last fall, requiring citizens to only vote for the candidate from their ward.
Information you need:
1. This was a sneaky deal by Rep Donnie Loftis to change our "at-large" voting system to a "ward-only" system. He got a crony to sponsor it (giving him denial rights) and added it to a local bill about Davidson County that needed to be passed.
2. The city council was not consulted or even NOTIFIED about the change
3. The city council was UNANIMOUS in opposing the change last fall.
4. The current city council (include Mayor Franks) voted to take the matter to the electorate through a referendum 6-1. The only opposition was Council Charles Odom who is against the change, but doesn't think it should go to referendum.
5. The change means that you can vote for 1 council members instead of all 6 -- and it means you can only vote once every 4 years.
6. Listen to the City Council recording from June 4 -- you can listen to the whole thing, or just start with the report from the City Attorney. https://cityofgastonia.granicus.com/player/clip/852?view_id=1&redirect=true
