The US National Weather Service put out a briefing this morning with the latest projections on the impacts of Isaias. Rain is forecast to develop across the area as early as Saturday morning and continue into at least Sunday morning. The peak flooding threat is expected Saturday evening through early Sunday.
● Total rainfall is mostly expected in the 2-4” range, with locally higher amounts on the southeast-facing slopes of the Appalachians. Confidence in this rainfall forecast is moderate. Based upon this forecast, some nuisance to minor flooding will be possible along streams and in low-lying areas, but widespread flash flooding, or moderate flooding along main stem rivers is unlikely.
● Confidence in the wind forecast is low at this time, but very gusty winds could develop over the mountains Saturday, possibly resulting in scattered damage to trees and power lines.

Did You Know? 🏛️

Bessemer City’s Citizens Academy Pilot Program is officially underway!

Over the past three weeks, participants have learned more about how their local government works through sessions covering the City Manager–Council form of government, Human Resources, the City Clerk’s Office, and Public Works.

This past week, the group also toured the J.V. Tarpley Water Treatment Plant, where they learned how drinking water is treated, processed, tested, and regulated to ensure it meets important safety standards before reaching our customers.

The Citizens Academy is designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at City operations and the employees who keep Bessemer City moving each day. The pilot program will continue this year and the general program session will start in 2027! 💙
