We were so excited to hold an Autumn Social for our clients in our CARES program last week!
The Matthews HELP Center’s CARES (Compassionate Advocacy and Resource Engagement Services) program provides assistance to individuals and families within our community who rely on a fixed income and are facing financial crisis. Those living on a fixed income can be especially vulnerable to financial crisis; medical emergencies or other unexpected costs may quickly cause their household budgets to become strained. This can lead to them falling behind on bills and facing eviction or utility disconnection.
The CARES Program originated out of a desire to help these neighbors by establishing a program for seniors and disabled individuals on Medicare. Our case workers identified a need in the community, and worked to create a solution through which the Matthews HELP Center could address that need.
Last week’s Autumn Social, the first event of its kind, offered a chance for our CARES clients to come together in community with our staff and each other and make new connections. Events like this allow our clients to feel the support of our entire MHC community and remind our staff of the impact our work has on the lives of individuals throughout our service area. We are so grateful for the success of this event, and thankful for the many donors, corporate partners, and staff that made it possible!
