Justice Earls has proven time and again that she stands on the side of everyday North Carolinians. We are honored to endorse her for re-election because we know she will continue fighting for our children, our educators, and our families to be treated fairly and with dignity. Justice Earls is the kind of leader who believes that justice should not depend on who you are, where you live, or what you look like, but on the simple fact that every person deserves equal protection under the law.

CMAE Educators & Community Members — We Are Standing With You.

As the presence of Customs and Border Protection increases concern across Mecklenburg County, we want to be absolutely clear: CMAE is committed to protecting our students, our families, and every educator in our district.

Over the past several days, CMAE has met with community organizations, legal partners, advocacy groups, and CMS school board leadership. Together, we are working to ensure that strong safety practices are identified, communicated, and carried out so every school, bus, and classroom remains safe, welcoming, and supportive.

We are actively pushing forward recommendations and partnering to strengthen communication, clarify procedures, and reinforce protections for staff and families. This work is ongoing, and we are fully engaged.

📢 CMAE MEMBERS — EMERGENCY MASS MEETING MONDAY NIGHT
We will gather to discuss updated information, next steps, and ongoing support for our school communities.
👉 Details will be shared shortly.

To every educator who continues to show up with courage, care, and steadiness — thank you. Please reach out if you need support or have concerns. We hear you, we see you, and we stand with you.

— Amanda M. Thompson
President, CMAE

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR EDUCATORS & COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS

We hear the frustration. We feel the frustration.
No state budget. No raises. Increased healthcare costs.
Educators are doing more with less — and have been for far too long.

However, CMAE believes our strength is in collective, organized action — not anonymous isolated call-outs.
We are committed to building strategic, unified advocacy that leads to real, sustainable change for our students and school communities. That work continues — and it grows stronger when we stand together.

Please take a moment to read our full statement:

As we move toward the upcoming legislative session, we will be organizing coordinated, school-based and statewide actions so that our voices are heard loud, clear, and together.

This moment isn’t about stepping away.
It’s about stepping forward — in unity.

CMAE Announces Our 2025 Endorsements for the CMS Board of Education

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators (CMAE) is proud to announce our official endorsements for the 2025 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education election.

This decision comes after weeks of thoughtful deliberation and deep member engagement — including participation in Classroom Central’s “Candidates & Conversations,” “An Evening Conversation: 2025 CMS Board of Education Candidates,” candidate questionnaires, and open discussions during our CMAE Mass Meeting. Every candidate who participated showed a commitment to our students, families, and schools, and nothing in this process was taken for granted.

Our endorsed candidates were selected based on:
✅ Their commitment to students and educators and alignment with CMAE’s values of equity, excellence, and opportunity for all.
✅ Their ability to collaborate with board and district leaders in ways that strengthen teaching, learning, and educator voice.
✅ Their connection to and engagement with the broader community, ensuring public schools remain a source of pride and progress for every family in Mecklenburg County.

CMAE’s 2025 Endorsed Slate:
District 1 – Charlitta Hatch
District 2 – Shamaiye Haynes
District 3 – Gregory “Dee” Rankin
District 4 – Stephanie Sneed
District 5 – Cynthia Stone
District 6 – Anna London

These leaders represent equity, collaboration, and a shared belief in the power of strong public schools. As the union and professional association voice of CMS educators, CMAE proudly stands with them in this important election.

Recent polling shows that Independent voters not only blame Republicans for the shutdown, but want Democrats to hold their ground on preventing health care prices from going up.

Welcome Back, Educators!

As a new school year begins, we pause to honor the people who make our schools thrive—from the bus drivers who greet students at dawn, to the teachers who inspire learning each day, to the secretaries who keep everything running, to the administrators who lead with vision, and all educators in between—we salute you all!

Each of you plays a vital role in shaping safe, supportive, and thriving schools for our students. Thank you for bringing your dedication, skill, and heart to this work. Together, we are building something greater than ourselves: the promise of opportunity for every child.

Here’s to a year of purpose, progress, and collective strength.

With gratitude,

CMAE Team
