Congratulations Caset Yu from Hopewell!
We're heading to the Queen City in North Carolina today for our Army JROTC 👑
Meet Kaitlyn Yu, a senior at Hopewell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Yu is the Hopewell Titan Battalion commander. She joined to better understand her family's military legacy and to be challenged.
"Leadership means taking action when no one else will, and I hold myself to that standard in everything I do. Nothing motivates me more than seeing my cadets grow into confident, capable individuals as it is proof that I can continue to grow as well. Watching them push past their limits, embrace challenges, and develop into leaders reminds me that leadership is about mentorship and service, not just direction."
She is a varsity swimmer, the Rifle Team Captain, and trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Academically, Yu earned her Cambridge Diploma with Merit and is on track to earn her Associate's Degree before graduating. She is passionate about service and leadership, volunteering both in her school and community. Yu attended the NC Governor's School and the Naval Academy Summer Seminar.
In her free time, Yu loves traveling, fishing, learning languages, art, and gardening. She plays the piano, flute, and electric guitar. She also has a passion for cars.
Yu's mother serves as her inspiration: Immigrating to a new country, raising children alone, and enduring multiple brain surgeries and cancer, Yu's mother never let hardship define her.
"No matter how difficult things become, she pressed forward, showing me that true strength isn't just about endurance but about perseverance and purpose. Through her, I learned that grit, determination, and leadership through service are the foundation of resilience."
Yu is a Naval scholarship recipient and after graduation, she plans on majoring in biomedical engineering and becoming a doctor.
Fun facts: She can speak four languages 🌎

QuestBridge is a fantastic opportunity! Check it out!
"[QuestBridge] was a shot in the dark. That was until I made it through the College Prep Scholars Program. ... I expanded my [college search] radius to the East Coast as a whole, rather than my bordering states, and was excited to maybe live in Boston or New York one day. QuestBridge made me realize how much potential I truly had. It expanded my limited mindset and hopes for my future to something much larger than I always desired." - Kevin A., Hedgesville, WV, Tufts University
