Traffic is bad in Cheshire.

Everyone is speeding and running red lights.

There’s no bus to the north end of town.

Our bus stops lack shelter and seating.

It’s unsafe to bike or walk in my neighborhood and around town.

If you can relate to one or more of these concerns, come out to the meeting tonight at the Cheshire Library from 6p-8p. Hear about the many steps our town can take to improve transportation and make our roads safer for everyone.

The draft plan "provides a comprehensive framework for improving transportation throughout the Town…," according to officials.

Fantastic to be at the Norton School ribbon cutting today. ‘New Norton’ lived up to the hype and then some. We should all be very proud of Norton and Barnum. The results speak for themselves but building two elementary schools at the same time is an ambitious endeavor for a small town. Not only are the schools amazing, they’re on time and under budget!! Congratulations to everyone involved - BOE, Council, Next Gen School Building Committee, town and school staff, O&G, Tecton and all the contractors on these two projects.

This awful tragedy is far beyond devastating, and my heart goes out to the family and the North Stonington community. I would pay anything to be able to go back in time and make it so this 6th grader were still alive. Several years ago Bike Cheshire and the Cheshire Community YMCA started a 'safe riding' class in Cheshire's elementary schools. One of the things we taught in the class was the rules of the road and how to ride safely on our streets. I'm so glad that the Cheshire YMCA continues to run these classes in Cheshire schools. There are a few school districts in CT with similar courses. I hope the legislature will look at providing more funding through the existing active transportation microgrant program, so more schools can run these classes. If we can save just one young life it'd all be worth it.

The school district said ongoing support will be available to students, families, caregivers and the community in the upcoming days.

The last time I had a chance to tour the new schools (in May), there was still a lot of work and finishing touches to be done. You could see how great the schools were going to be but you couldn’t quite experience it yet. Based on all the pics we’ve seen over the past few weeks, the schools appear to be exceeding expectations. I can’t wait to walk through the doors for the first time. Hope to see you there.

More to say in the days ahead but I’m proud of our campaign. I’m proud of the issues we fought on and for being a voice for all the Democrats who know we have to do better and deliver more. Primaries are very hard under the best of conditions. It’s never easy going against the grain. We fought a long, uphill battle right through to the very end. We won Cheshire by a huge margin and won Middlefield but came up too short in Meriden and Middletown. You win some. You lose some. I can’t say thank you enough to my family, all my old friends, new friends, colleagues, voters, supporters, volunteers and donors that made this run possible. I’m truly grateful. My heart is full and I’m still, as always, standing tall.
