On Wednesday morning I spoke at the Duneland Chamber Candidate Forum. Here is my speech I gave.
Good morning everyone.
My name is Rudy Jimenez, and I’m running to be your next Jackson Township Trustee.
My family and I have called Jackson Township home for the past 15 years. I’ve spent 38 years serving in public safety, and I currently serve as a Captain with the Chesterton Fire Department and also Chesterton Firefighters Local 4600 Union President.
Public service has taught me something very important: when people need help, they don’t want excuses—they want someone who will step up, listen, and get the job done.
I’m running for Township Trustee because I believe I can bring that same commitment to this position.
Jackson Township is growing, and with that growth comes greater responsibility. We need to make sure we have a plan in place to protect our community, responsibly manage taxpayer dollars, and provide the services our residents depend on.
I have experience working with budgeting principles established by the Indiana State Board of Accounts, and I understand the importance of maintaining a balanced budget and being responsible with every taxpayer dollar.
Township government is the level of government closest to the people. As Township Trustee, I will be responsible for providing assistance to residents who are facing difficult times. That can include emergency rent and utility assistance, food assistance, and burial assistance.
These programs are an important safety net for members of our community who need a helping hand.
Fire protection is another critical responsibility of the Township Trustee. Jackson Township is served by the Liberty Township and Westville Volunteer Fire Departments. These firefighters provide essential emergency services to our residents every day.
As your Township Trustee, I will work to ensure our fire departments are adequately funded and equipped so they can continue providing the highest level of service possible. One goal I have is for improving response times in the township.
The Township Trustee is also responsible for maintaining our two township cemeteries. That means making sure they are properly landscaped and maintained, addressing damaged headstones and fencing, and ensuring these important places of remembrance receive the care and respect they deserve.
Finally, I believe government should be transparent and accountable to the people it serves. I will work to maintain a balanced budget and provide residents with greater access to township government through public meetings that can also be streamed from home.
I’m not running because I want a title. I’m running because I believe in this community, I believe in public service, and I believe Jackson Township deserves a Trustee who will work hard, listen to the residents, and plan for the future.
For the past 38 years, I’ve answered the call to serve.
I’m asking for the opportunity to continue that service as your next Jackson Township Trustee.
Thank you for your time, your support, and the opportunity to serve this community.
