On World Peace Day, I’m reminded of my visit to Youth Peace Center of Roseland and the role sports have long played in building safer communities across Chicago. For Chicagoans, sports remind us that even across our differences, we can build trust, find common ground, and nurture safe environments.

That’s why my public safety plan will prioritize safe spaces where young people can gather, socialize, and grow.

Tonight I was honored to speak at the 77th Chinese National Day Celebration Event hosted by the Chinese American
Association of Greater Chicago.

Chinese Americans have made extraordinary contributions to the economic, cultural, educational, and civic life here in Illinois and across our nation. Chicago’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths and the CAAGC plays an important role in bringing people together, preserving cultural heritage & strengthening connections across our communities.

As a dad to four daughters, I think a lot about the world we’re leaving behind for the next generation and the impact our vote can have. Today, I joined Moms for Democracy in Lincoln Park alongside my girls and my own mom to write personal reminders encouraging neighbors to make their voices heard and vote this November.

Grateful for every mom, friend and neighbor doing their part to help people show up. Make sure you’re registered and have a plan to vote.

For years, Chinatown didn’t have a DMV of its own. In 2024, we changed that, opening the community’s first-ever DMV on Canal and bringing greater access and modernized services closer to home.

We got it done, but the most important part is that we got it done together.

That same spirit of showing up, listening and doing the work brought us back to Chinatown today.
