Free tours are held RAIN OR SHINE. Group size may be limited. Tours occur on the 2nd Saturday of the month (April thru November, 2025) 10 AM. Meet at 5800 N.

April 11, 2026 will be the first tour of the year; 10 AM and we meet at the Rosehill gates 5800 N. Ravenswood. The tour is free and will be held outdoors if weather permits. If it is inclement, we will have a tour inside our fascinating and lovely Community mausoleum. The tours are two hours long. Tours are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month through November, 2026.

Odds of getting hit by a cannon on the tour are low, but never zero. Our tours begin again next Spring, 2026. Hope to see you there, rain or shine!

Saturday, November 8, 2025: Historic Rosehill Cemetery will host the Veterans Day Observance and Ceremony. Sponsored by the 1st Michigan Engineers Company E, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Chicago Light Artillery representatives. The ceremony will celebrate past and present veterans. Come join us to hear our honored guests and watch a Cannon and Rifle Salute provided by the Chicago Light Artillery and Battery L. 11:00 AM. Walking tour begins at 10 AM and will conclude in time for the Veterans Day observance at the May Chapel within Rosehill 5800 N. Ravenswood Avenue.

* ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PARADE and CEREMONY *

WHAT: Rosehill Cemetery MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY, 10 AM Monday, May 26, 2025, Rosehill will host a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in conjunction with Tattler Post #973, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Chicago Light Artillery, Daughters of the American Revolution and local dignitaries/elected officials. The ceremony will celebrate past and present veterans. β€œAvenue of Flags” to display 165+ USA flags of deceased veterans. Costumed Union soldiers of the Chicago Light Artillery to discharge a Canon Salute. β€œClara Barton”, Red Cross founder reenactor to be present. Complimentary cookout to follow. (Past attendees approximately 1500.)

Parade: Tattler Post #973 ,Lane Tech High School ROTC, Local Cub Scouts, Daughters of the American Revolution, local dignitaries/elected officials.

Founded in 1859, at least one veteran from every war in U.S. history is laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery, including the Revolutionary War, 20 Civil War generals and more than 350 Union soldiers. Rosehill Cemetery is as diverse as the city of Chicago and at 335 acres, is its largest. It represents local and national history.

Though virtually illegible now, here are two photos of Frances Pearce's grave. The uncovered monument is how it looked while still in the original Chicago City Cemetery, before it was moved to Rosehill. The wonderful white marble statue is carved by Chauncey B. Ives.

Rosehill Cemetery Veterans Day Observed - Ceremony November 11th. Sponsored by the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Chicago Light Artillery. The ceremony will celebrate past and present veterans. Costumed soldiers will represent all eras of U.S. military history and Rev. Jerry Kowalski will speak during the ceremony. Chicago Light Artillery and Canon Salute to be present.
