at the Burning Bush Gallery, Wheaton Illinois

"As part of the CARAVAN exhibit, premier Egyptian Artist Marwa Adel presents her latest reflections on how our physical bodies are intricately linked to our life experiences titled Memory of Physical Essence. The exhibit is at the Burning Bush Gallery in Wheaton, IL. The show runs from Wednesday February 10th through Sunday, March 20th.

The physical body is a word surrounded by restrictions in Middle Eastern society. Our bodies are the medium that links us to this world and reflections our souls. The exhibition includes 25 works of photography, with digital photo manipulation.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, Marwa Adel holds a BA and MFA from the Advertising Department in the Faculty of Applied Arts from Helwan University, Cairo. Adel lives in Cairo and teaches at the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helewan University. She is a photographer and installation artist who combines text with photography in many of her projects. Adel defies traditional Middle Eastern norms by using pictures of the human body in her work. Her style is very personal and intimate as she maintains her own voice in all her work as she tackles the taboo of the human figure, using it as a form of expression and in revolt of social restrictions.

Reflecting on her art, Adel says, "One needs to express themselves in a way to make society hear, feel and understand you...When you find your life you will find your identity."

She has participated in many international exhibitions both in Egypt and internationally such as in Dubia, Sweden, Senegal, Mali, England, Sharjah, and the Netherlands. Adel has won many awards for her bold and powerful creations including the Golden Prize at the 9th European Arab Festival Of Photography competition in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Marwa Adel is represented commercially in the US by Syra Arts.

The show will open on Wednesday, February 10th. Regular viewing hours are scheduled on Sundays from 10am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm. and Wednesday's from 6pm to 7pm. Special viewing arrangements for individual or groups can be made by calling 708-705-8669. There will be an Artists Reception on Saturday February 20th from 6-9pm with special guest, Ambassador Mohamed Aboueldahab, Consul General of Egypt in Chicago.
