TEN YEARS ON THE HEADSET
ββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Rodriguez worked as a call taker for the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
From OEMC's statement: throughout her decade of service to the department, Natalia was a close colleague and friend, a hard worker and a dedicated call taker, and her passing is a terrible loss to her family and to OEMC.

WHAT THAT JOB IS IN THIS CITY
ββββββββββββββββββββββββ
OEMC handles every 911 call in Chicago. All 22 CPD districts. Chicago Fire. EMS.
Millions of calls a year, out of one building.
The people who answer them are the first first responders. Before a squad rolls, before an ambulance moves, somebody already took the call, pulled the location, sorted the noise into an address, and started talking to whoever was on the other end.
They hear the worst thirty seconds of a stranger's life, then take the next call.
Natalia Rodriguez did that in this city for ten years, and then drove home from her family at midnight.
