The spring league wrapped up yesterday at the Riverfront Skate Rink and what a season it was 🏒

Our NHL STREET youth hockey players spent the spring learning new skills, scoring goals, building confidence, making friends, and having a blast at the newly painted Skate Rink at Sawyer Point. This program is a partnership Skate Downtown Cincy, led by Coach Jim Colville with support from our amazing volunteers, Riverfront Parks staff, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. NHL STREET is beginner friendly, low pressure, fun, and affordable, making hockey accessible for every kid who wants to play.

Summer youth league registration is NOW OPEN and spots are filling fast. Sign your child up today: https://bit.ly/4nuS1uf

This weekend Skate Downtown Cincy held a PaintNSkate public painting day at the Sawyer Point Skate Rink!

In partnership with the greater Cincinnati community, artist Pam Kravetz lead the painting, with artists Rick Wolf and Matt Whitby. The public joined in painting a large-scale, skateable mural that centers a simple but powerful idea: In America, the people are supposed to be in charge. Funding and production support was provided by Art On The Street as part of Us@250, a national initiative inviting scholars, artists, and community organizers to celebrate the nation’s progress and spark conversations about the future of America.

The inspiration for the artwork came from the community itself: members of the skate community offered ideas which the artists brought to life in a large design at the rink.

The rink is closed all week, but will be open on Saturday April 25 for an unveiling of the art work at 2pm. Skaters and community members are invited to come enjoy the new rink art!

Bulbs are all gone for today!

***PLEASE READ***
FAQ’s regarding the bulbs we give away:
1. When will you be digging out the bulbs?
Answer: we will be starting now and continuing through next week or longer, depending on weather and soil conditions and what other jobs we have to do.
2. Can I help dig, in exchange for bulbs?
Answer: thank you, but we have plenty of help digging.
3. When will there be bulbs for me to take?
Answer: everybody hates this answer but we can’t really give any specific times. We have lots of jobs to do besides bulbs, and we organize our day as we need to, which means the bulbs are there when they’re there.
4. How will I know there are bulbs for the taking?
Answer: we will post on this page when there is a pile. Please don’t call the parks office.
5. I didn’t get any bulbs last time. Can you save me some?
Answer: we can’t save bulbs for specific people. We hope everyone is understanding and that people don’t take more than what they need and that everyone gets some.
6. What do I do with my bulbs?
Answer: we recommend you go ahead and plant them now, with the leaves on if possible. Some people like to dry them out and plant in the fall. Totally your choice.
7. Why do you dig out the bulbs each year? Isn’t that a huge waste of money?
Answer: we have zillions of bulbs we leave in the ground as permanent plantings. For our annual display beds, we need to dig them out to make way for summer flowers, which will plant in May. We want our displays to be different and spectacular each year, so we plant new bulb combinations each fall.
