These professionals are the first line of communication during emergencies, ensuring that critical information is relayed quickly and efficiently to first responders and medical teams. Their tireless commitment and calm under pressure are essential in keeping our community safe.

A routine day took a life-threatening turn for Dr. William Shula—but thanks to the quick actions of first responders and UC Health’s Air Care & Mobile Care team, he got a second chance at life.

Dr. Shula was critically injured when he blacked out while driving. During air transport, UC Health’s emergency team used onboard ultrasound to diagnose a life-threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). That rapid response meant the surgical team was ready the moment he arrived at UC Medical Center.

Now, 10 years later, Dr. Shula remains thankful for the seamless teamwork that made all the difference, “I would not be standing here if that team didn’t work together as well as they did.”

Teri began her career in critical care and transport nursing and served as Director of Air Care & Mobile Care from 2008–2014. Today, she continues as our Chief Nursing Officer, fostering growth, excellence, and a legacy of care that will resonate for years to come.

As Teri prepares for retirement, we extend our deepest gratitude for her exceptional leadership and steadfast guidance that strengthened our program and left an indelible mark on countless lives.
