The HARMONY GARDEN is an independent community research and education center that works to promote the health of girls.
We engage in Community Based Participatory Action Research to explore and better understand the issues identified as most concerning to community residents. Through exploration and education programs, we aim to partner with girls, their caregivers, community stakeholders, and organizations to help all girls achieve their full potential.

Young Pregnancy
"This photo of dead baby rabbits represents that you should never have children when you are young, because there could be something wrong with them and it will ruin your life. If you can tell, there is hair everywhere that the mother pulled out to make a nest. She will be scarred for life."
"Even if your body can get pregnant young, it can lead to many problems."
"Parents put off the task of talking about sex...and are not comfortable talking with their child."
"We need to discuss sexual and reproductive health issues earlier in school. We are waiting too late--kids are already sexually active."

Mother and daughter teams had the opportunity to take these photos and express what a healthy teen girl meant to them and to raise awareness concerning the barriers to girls' health currently present in their community.

Armed with cameras, mother-daughter teams from Price Hill went into their community and captured images that, to them, best encapsulated the idea of a “healthy girl.” Their work reflects some shared perceptions and core concerns surrounding girls’ health in the Price Hill community. Pictures are accompanied by comments by the photographers.
