On Saturday January 13,2024, in honor of his recent 90th Birthday, Cincinnati TV Icon, Nick Clooney, was honored in his boyhood home of Maysville, Kentucky by officially proclaiming it Nick Clooney Day! At a local celebration, with those in attendance including actor/director George Clooney, Kentucky Governor Andy Bresear, former WKRC TV Weatherman Ira Joe Fisher, and many other family and friends, they witnessed the inauguration of the new Maysville Street "Nick Clooney Way".
Ever since he started as a young teen working at the small Maysville radio station, WFTM, Nick's talent led him his whole life through the broadcasting world. This includes hosting his own Variety Show in the Cincinnati Market, plus anchoring one of the top local Cincinnati newscasts of his day on WKRC. Nick also received a more Worldwide Fame, as he entered the world of Satellite and Cable broadcasting as host of an old time movie program on the A&E station. Among all his former jobs; DJ, TV Host, or top TV News personality, Nick also gave his talent to tons of commercial voice over work. Nick is defiantly a Broadcast Legend.
Nick currently resides in the small town of Augusta, Kentucky, were he has lived since the mid 1970's. Augusta is but 20 plus miles from his boyhood home of Maysville. Nick's sister was the late singer and movie star Rosemary Clooney.
On his 90th birthday, we at Classic Cincinnati TV wish and toast one of our City's biggest Radio and TV icons a very happy Birthday.
Cheers to many more and lasting health.

THE REAL M*A*S*H
The man on the left in the photo below is Dr. Richard Hornberger (aka Richard Ho**er). He wrote the original M*A*S*H novel in 1968. The picture is from the 8055th M*A*S*H in 1952, South Korea (the novel, movie, and TV series had it renamed the 4077th). That is the real 'Swamp' tent. The character of Capt. Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce was based on Hornberger. And the novel loosely followed some of his experiences as a doctor working in a M*A*S*H unit during the Korean War. He loved the 1970 movie adaptation of his novel, but he hated the TV series! He (Dr. Hormberger) is more conservative, whereas the TV version of Hawkeye was more liberal. He of course didn't complain too much as he was laughing all the way to the bank. Richard Hornberger passed away on November 4th, 1997.
