Time for another tremendous Kentucky Resuscitation Academy! Doing great resuscitation is certainly part of it, but if you want to learn about building a system to improve cardiac arrest survival, this is the place to start.
If you’re a judge exec, mayor, county official, public health, hospital admin, or a policy maker who wants to improve cardiac arrest survival in your community this is a fantastic way to get started!
We definitely want our emergency services providers of all stripes there, don’t get me wrong, but the treatment of out of hospital cardiac arrest is a community action. The unfortunate fact is that if a victim has to wait for EMS to arrive to start treatment, they’re probably not going to survive.
Come down and learn about the things that really make a difference in pulling back a life from the jaws of death!
🚨Don't miss your chance to register! 🚨
The Kentucky Office of Rural Health, in partnership with the Resuscitation Academy, will be hosting a one-day, free workshop (Monday, April 13) providing evidence-based training to improve out-of-hospital cardiac arrest resuscitation outcomes. Topics include: the science of CPR, telephone CPR, rapid dispatch, high-performance CPR, cardiac arrest data collection, and implementing best practices.
✅ Register NOW: https://bit.ly/kyra2026
🚩 And don't miss the opportunity for the optional second day of training (Tuesday, April 14), which allows attendees to participate in a High-Performance CPR Train the Trainer Workshop, designed to provide instruction, coaching, and feedback to professionals who want to teach.
🚑 911 Center Directors, Medical Directors, EMS Chiefs, Quality Improvement Managers, and Training Officers are all encouraged to attend!

We've finally finished cutting down the recordings from the 2025 Kentucky EMS Medical Directors Conference. There were some really great talks from Dan Batsie's Keynote on Deliberate Disruption, EMS buprenorphine, aeromed transport, regulatory updates, safe driving, a cool new program for medically complex kids (that will make your life a lot easier), trauma updates, airway... and if you want to see what the next evolution in cardiac arrest management is going to be , you have to see Jason Bowman's arrest physiology talk. So go check them out!

I'm putting together a series of education videos on the new Kentucky State Protocols. Here's the first one on the changes to the termination of resus and withholding resus protocol. It's a little dry and might be a better listen than a watch, but it should answer a lot of questions. Have a look!

Sure, you can read the computer interpretation at the top of the strip, but there's a reason they still pay humans to read EKGs. Check out this first in our practical emergency EKG interpretation series:

We've been sorta quietly working on a project recently that I think is ready to start putting out there. It's called EKG of the Week, and the page lives here

You've obtained a lot of EKGs, but since you got out of medic school (or for that matter, while you were in school) how many times have you sat down with someone and actually walked through how to read one? EKG interpretation is one of the defining skills of paramedic practice, but for most of us, it's like bowling in the dark- you can't improve your next roll if you don't have feedback on this one.
This is a series of relatively short videos where we go through real world EKGs and how to interpret them. For folks in the know, it's a quick refresher; for folks just starting out, it's a bit more in depth practice than a 2 week cardiology block, but in 10 minute bits. Give it a look!
EKG OF THE WEEK — EMS Grand Rounds
INTERPRETING AN EKG IS PROBABLY THE THING THAT MOST CLEARLY SEPARATES A PARAMEDIC’S ABILITIES FROM THAT OF OTHER PREHOSPITAL PROFESSIONALS.

Tracheostomies are a little bit scary to deal with, largely because we're just not really familiar with them in EMS. Having a little path to follow when dealing with a patient in distress with a tracheostomy can be awfully helpful.

Nitrous Oxide... just for laughs.
Actually it's a really good idea that you could be using now- simple, safe, effective. Really, what's stopping us?
