Ohio House Bill 249, proposing an age restriction on drag performances while policing the gender expression of transgender and gender nonconforming Ohioans, passes and heads to the Ohio Senate.

As the Buckeye Flame reports, "If passed, “The Enact the Indecent Exposure Modernization Act” would ban drag and gender performances outside of “adult cabaret” venues or in any public venue where a minor may be present. Public performances that meet the definition of obscenity are already banned under Ohio law."

“This bill literally singles out people who are trans, those who are gender non-conforming, and basically calls into question, ‘Should you exist in the public eye?’ That is the reality of this bill,” Rep. Dontavious L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) added. “When you talk about what this bill really is, it is an attack on human lives.”

Our February Membership Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00 PM at a NEW LOCATION, The W Sports Bar!

Our upcoming meeting will include a proposal from the CSD Board to increase the number of Board Members. Dues-paying members will vote on this proposal as well as our annual Board election. We will also discuss and review resources about immigration and the ongoing ICE operations across the United States.

Cleveland Stonewall Democrats stand with Minnesota and all those affected by ICE. That's why we are shutting it down tomorrow, January 30 - No work, no school, no shopping!

Following the call for a general strike from youth organizations on the ground in Minnesota, CSD will be joining the nationwide shutdown in solidarity. On Friday, January 30th, we will rally in Public Square at 2 PM to send a message to the Trump administration that ICE must go.

Join us tomorrow in whatever way you can, whether that's walking out of work/ school or refusing to participate in the economy. Together, we can make it clear that ICE is not welcome here!
