Under Ohio law, a private citizen seeking to “cause an arrest or prosecution” can file an affidavit with “a reviewing official” — a judge, prosecuting attorney, or magistrate — to have them review the facts and decide if a complaint should be filed.

Stop calling this an assassination; it was not an assassination for a man who has incited and provoked his supporters to incite the darkest hatred in others. He has tested our democracy, tried to tear down our constitution, called for the death of his vice president, used his popularity to instill fear in his party members, and tested our justice system that has turned corrupt. No one feels a bit of pity for Trump. This is all Trump's own doing. The media must place his actions where they belong, right at his feet.

It's Sunday!

Yesterday, we experienced a terrible shock to our democratic system when a young man attempted to assassinate former President Trump. I am saddened for the family and friends of the audience member who was killed, concerned about those who were injured, and relieved that President Trump escaped with only a minor injury. My heart also goes out to the family of the young man who committed this act.

Let us stand united against this violence. As someone who has tirelessly served in our communities and our children's schools, I know that this type of violence goes against everything we stand for. It is not who we are, and it is not what we teach our children.

Political violence like this sacrifices everything we and generations have worked so hard to build in our country. It puts at risk everything we want for ourselves and to leave our children.

I am grateful for our community's resilience. Together, we will continue to be the bedrock of democracy, working to ensure that no one ever has to endure what that audience or the former President went through yesterday.

While we may have our differences, one thing is clear: violence has no place in our campaign. We are committed to a peaceful and respectful discourse.
