This webinar is free of charge. The Registration was set up by the company that the agency went through. I've been sharing these very words with families for almost a dozen years. It really is a game changer in the family dynamics once it is recognized & a new plan for behaviors is created. Well said Kristin Berry.
3 Reasons Traditional Parenting Doesn't Work With Kids From Trauma. If you've parented a child from a traumatic past for any length of time, you already know that traditional parenting techniques do not work. But, have you ever stopped to consider why, or what you could do differently?
With Mother's Day right around the corner, please be aware that this may be a very confusing & grief-filled time for your adoptive child. This day can trip so many triggers to the loss of their birthmom, & any additional losses that followed. If you see a difference in your child's attitude & behavior leading up to Mother's Day, that may be the reason. Talking about it, & asking what you can do together to honor birthmom (maybe plant a flower, make a card, etc.) may help to ease all of the emotions. Your initiation of the topic will give your child voice & may make them feel a little more comfortable about sharing.

This is why it is so important that no matter what age you adopt, you begin to meet needs immediately. You rock, cuddle, bottle feed, etc. to begin to teach these children that their needs are important & that they do matter. It's a long journey, but the attachment cycle will take root as you continue to meet these needs & you figure out what works best for your child ...
