So we’ve been waiting for the official release of the newest addition to The Sandy Ridge Fire Dept and we can finally share it with everyone else! So help me make welcome the newest addition to our community and our fire dept, everyone make welcome “Engine 51”, This 1995 Pierce Dash which was once Engine 206 for Abingdon Fire Department has been graciously donated to The Sandy Ridge Fire Dept, in making our response and firefighting efforts more effective and efficient for our community and the people who live in or around it. Hopefully this truck will be making her way home this Thursday or Friday evening where members of our department will start a new tradition of physically pushing this engine into her permanent residence here at Sandy Ridge.

Cody Rittenberry — Chief, Sandy Ridge Fire Department

Cody Rittenberry’s passion for the fire service started while he was still in high school. Like many who find their calling in the fire service, Cody learned early on the importance of teamwork, dedication, discipline, and serving others.

After stepping away from the fire service for a period of time, Cody found his way back to the department four years ago. Since returning, he has continued to grow as a firefighter and leader, dedicating his time and experience to serving the Sandy Ridge community.

Today, Cody proudly serves as Chief of the Sandy Ridge Fire Department, leading with a commitment to his department, his fellow firefighters, and the community they serve.

For Cody, being a firefighter is more than a title—it is a commitment to show up, stand together, and serve when people need it most.

Today has been a great day big news for Sandy Ridge Fire Department, we have been blessed abundantly and we have worked hard to better this department and community. “THIS IS FOR THEM”

Members of The Sandy Ridge Fire Department attended the 46th annual Wise Regional Fire School this weekend to sharpen their skills and ability to protect the community and citizens we serve, they participated in The Rural Engine Tactics class that was held with a absolute great bunch who are known as Dirty Engine Company, this group of men taught us things that go way back to the basics of firefighting to the aggressive push on the interior fire attack, a lot of departments in various locations are dead set on not using smooth bore in an interior fire attack situation, it’s been called rogue it’s said that it will get your people seriously hurt or killed but as one of the guys told us “MORE WATER MORE BETTER” we’ve seen things done this weekend that we will take back to our station and train on and we’ve taken the best step forward in making our fire attack successful to better serve our community and the people in it.

This video is a demonstration from The Dirty Engine Company on how using that smooth bore everyone absolutely hates in the flow and move on a interior attack situation “MORE WATER MORE BETTER”

So never think we aren’t training that we’re just hanging out at the station just because you see a bunch of vehicles here and the bay doors closed, walk in our door and you will find that we are actively working on making our department better every single day and we will be more than happy to show some of the skills we have trained on and acquired through training like we do.
