Happy 156th birthday San Jacinto County, TX!

San Jacinto County, TX, was established on August 13, 1870, from portions of Polk, Walker, Trinity, and Montgomery counties. Named to commemorate the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 and for the fork of the San Jacinto River that runs through the county. Originally called San Jacinto Creek by Spanish explorers after Saint Hyacinth and for the abundance of hyacinth found around the river.

Saint Hyacinth was a Polish Dominican priest and missionary who worked to reform the women's monasteries in his native Poland. He died August 15, 1257.

Coincidentally, Saint Hyacinth's feast day is August 17th!
