When children are exposed to frightening news or events related to immigration enforcement, they may experience stress in ways that are not always obvious. Changes in sleep, appetite, mood, or concentration can all be signs that a child is struggling.
One of the most powerful things adults can do is help children feel safe, teach healthy coping skills, and remind them that kindness, connection, and hope still exist—even during difficult times.
Every child deserves to feel valued, supported, and connected to their community. 💙

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close and the school year wraps up, we’re reflecting on the important role schools play in supporting student mental health, connection, and well-being. 💚

Through the Prevention & Wellness Academy of Ohio, Prevention Action Alliance partnered with four Ohio school districts to strengthen school-based prevention and wellness efforts.
Survey data highlights encouraging outcomes, including:

📈 Increased school connectedness
💬 More students reporting trusted adults to talk to
😴 Improved sleep
⬇️ Decreases in reported depression

These findings reinforce the impact that supportive school environments and trusted relationships can have on young people.

Swipe through to explore the data, hear directly from participating schools, and learn more about the Academy’s impact.
