💜 Taking Proactive Steps to Protect Victims and Save Lives
Yesterday, Captain Matt Campbell with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office joined Brooke Powell, Safehouse Crisis Center’s Executive Director, and KSN’s Dustin Lattimer to discuss our department’s newly implemented Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP)
This important initiative is another step forward in our commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and connecting them with potentially life-saving resources.
The Lethality Assessment Protocol helps law enforcement identify individuals who may be at an increased risk of serious injury or death due to domestic violence. By recognizing these warning signs early, deputies can take proactive steps to connect victims with advocates, support services, and resources when they may need them most.
Our goal is simple: identify the danger, provide support, and help prevent future tragedies.
We recognize that law enforcement cannot accomplish this mission alone. Strong partnerships with victim advocacy organizations and community resources are essential to improving victim safety and ensuring survivors know that help is available.
We appreciate Brooke Powell and her organization for their continued partnership and dedication to serving victims in our community. We also thank KSN and Dustin Lattimer for helping bring awareness to this important initiative.
💜 Every victim deserves to feel safe, to be heard, and to know they are not alone.
Domestic violence can turn deadly without warning, but a new effort in southeast Kansas is designed to help stop it from happening.
