Ohio stands out as the first state in the nation to update education and experience requirements to sit for the CPA examination. Applicants who begin their exam journey as of January 1, 2026 can be licensed in Ohio with a baccalaureate degree and two years of experience; or a master's degree and one year of experience. Bloomberg Tax published an article today highlighting Ohio's push for change and its outreach to Ohio universities to spread the word:

FAQ of the day: How do I know if have met requirements for the CPA Exam?

A: CPA examination services reviews education as part of the Exam application process. The Board does not pre-review transcripts. We encourage you to:

1. Print a copy of your transcript(s)
2. Highlight all accounting courses
3. Verify you have completed a course in tax, audit and financial accounting
4. Total number of earned accounting credits
5. Highlight all business courses (in a different color)
6. Total number of earned business credits
7. Verify that the earned degree is stated on transcript

Duplicate course credits will be applied once.

If you are unsure if a course counts as an accounting or business course, please reach out to CPA Examination Services.
