Today, we’re cleaning the headstone of two young siblings: Grover Marion, born October 18, 1886, and Effie Marion, born November 16, 1870. Grover passed at just two years old in December 1888, while Effie tragically passed at the age of 17 in March of the that same year. They rest here in Pickaway County, Ohio, as part of the Marion family plot.
According to the Census. Their parents, David Marion (born 1848) and Rebecca Jane Route (born 1856), were blessed with several children, many of whom grew to adulthood despite the hardships of the 19th century.
When we first started cleaning the headstone we thought there was only on child buried here but afterwards we discovered both and hope that it will be preserved for many years to come. Taking care of these graves not only honors Grover and Effie’s memory but preserves a piece of history. Every life, no matter how brief, leaves a legacy worth remembering.
