A former Captain of Battery A recalls 1996 when the Ohio Statehouse restoration was finished and the Battery was begining:

I still remember that weekend in late July 1996 when we gathered on the lawn of the Ohio Statehouse. And the time as Chris and I were leaving the building, and he asked me if I was going to a particular event. I answered that I was as I was part of an artillery unit already committed.

That's when he dropped the bomb and informed me of the commissioning of Battery A.

As we walked out to the exhibits, I interrupted Greg Brown (first Captain of Battery A), so he could hear that. He too was surprised, but we both were impressed and immediately volunteered.

Thank you profusely.

The Ohio Statehouse will have Civil War cannon firings on April 29 - open to the public. This week at the Ohio Statehouse, there was a Revolutionary War encampment with firings. The drill seemed very similar.
