Partnerships make for good medicine for our patients. Recently OEMSCA member agency Tri-Village Rescue Services welcomed the teams from MedFlight 8 - Preble, OH MedFlight to provide some continuing education on cardiac emergencies. These relationships and the sharing of knowledge is a primary focus of 3rd service EMS to ensure we give our patients the absolute best when they experience a medical emergency. Great job everyone!

A great example of cooperation to expedite care in a remote part of the state. OEMSCA Member agency Put-In-Bay EMS partnered with Life Flight and ProMedica Air and Mobile to solve a difficult situation with multiple patients on the island. Bravo to everyone involved that resolved this emergency quickly.

This morning we want to send a huge congratulations to Medic Thompson from OEMSCA member agency Indian Lake EMS Joint Ambulance District, Indian Lake EMS Association. Earlier this week he was recognized by Lima Memorial Health System for outstanding work for a difficult trauma case last year. Congratulations on your hard work!!

We extend our congratulations to Medic Don Thompson on this notable achievement. Don received the Trauma Run of the Year award from Lima Memorial Hospital. Congratulations are in order for Don on a job well done!!

We’re excited to see regional initiatives like the Mahoning Valley EMS Awards recognizing outstanding providers in their area. A special congratulations goes to the clinicians of OEMSCA associate member agency Lane Lifetrans Paramedics and their partners at Boardman Fire Department for the incredible care and work that earned them this award. As you can see in the post, there was a significant amount that needed to be done, but the return on that investment of the patients life, is priceless. This is Improving Outcomes, Together.

Congratulations to our 2026 Mahoning Valley EMS Awards Clinical Save Award recipients: Kailyn Assion, Jack Kadilak, and the Boardman Fire Department!

This award recognizes exceptional clinical judgment, teamwork, and the ability to continually reassess and adapt care during a rapidly evolving critical event.

During this call, crews responded to a patient experiencing severe respiratory distress and initiated treatment including CPAP in an effort to improve the patient’s condition. Despite early intervention, the patient’s status continued to decline. Rather than becoming fixed on the initial treatment plan, providers recognized the patient’s changes adjusted treatment accordingly.

As the patient became unresponsive and developed profound bradycardia, the team transitioned to assisted ventilations and initiated transcutaneous pacing with successful capture in an effort to maintain perfusion and stabilize the patient.

When the patient later lost pulses during transport, resuscitative efforts continued immediately through hospital arrival. Through constant reassessment, escalation of care, and coordinated teamwork, the patient achieved sustained ROSC and ultimately went on to make a full neurological recovery.

This save reflects something that cannot be taught by protocol alone. It shows the willingness to continuously evaluate a patient, recognize when current interventions are no longer enough, and confidently move to the next step.

Outside of this call, both recipients shared a passion for medicine and caring for others.

Kailyn, currently an EMT at Lane LifeTrans and in paramedic school, shared that she entered EMS while pursuing clinical experience and quickly developed a passion for emergency medicine. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Youngstown State University with a degree in Biological Sciences, she plans to continue into medical school and ultimately pursue Emergency Medicine and Cardiology.

Jack shared that he entered EMS to explore medicine and quickly discovered a passion for patient care and prehospital medicine. As a biology student at Youngstown State University with aspirations of attending NEOMED, he described becoming a paramedic as one of the best decisions he has made and values every opportunity to positively impact even one person.

Congratulations to Kailyn, Jack, and Boardman Fire Department on this extraordinary achievement and thank you for representing the very best of Mahoning Valley EMS.
