Remembering SPC Joey Lenz In honor of Army Specialist Joey Lenz, 32, who died while sleeping in his barracks at Fort Hood, TX. Joey was the youngest of their three sons.

There is now a bill in Congress, H.R.1014, mandating physicals in person with an OSHA compliant blood panel for every active military service member. Army SPC Joey Martens Lenz
November 16, 1989-February 1, 2022

Joey Martens Lenz, 32, of Conroe, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 1 at Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas due to an enlarged heart. This was not revealed by the Army and his mother did her own investigation for the truth. Joey Martens Lenz was born November 16, 1989, in Baytown, Texas to his parents, Margie Martens (Lenz) Taylor and Ted Michael Lenz. His brothers are Timothy Scott Lenz of Washington married to Valerie Lenz, and their two daughters-Willa and Elle, and Cody Michael Lenz married to Angela Lenz of La Porte. Texas and their two children-Cooper and Lily. Specialist Joey Lenz, Conroe, Texas (32) was serving in the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas. He enlisted in the Army on September 18, 2017, completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on December 4, 2017, and Advanced Individual Training as a 91D Generator Mechanic at Fort Lee, Virginia on March 7, 2018. He was deployed to the Republic of Korea October 2019 through February 2021 where he served as a Tactical Power Generator Specialist. As a generator mechanic he received many accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. After re-enlisting in October 2020, he had a change of career paths and was preparing to leave the Army in the next month to live in Conroe and explore civilian options as a Generator Mechanic. He was an enthusiastic, caring, and kind young man known for his deep passion of all animals especially cats and dogs. He always had a cat living with him in civilian life. While a soldier in the Army he was pursuing opportunities to volunteer at the local animal shelter. Joey was looking forward to having a pet when he came back home. His humor was contagious, and he never met a stranger. He was known as the life of any gathering or โ€œLights Out Lenz.โ€ His friends referred to him as the King of One-Liners and Giver of Nicknames. He loved his family with his entire being and was devoted to his mom. He will always be her Mamaโ€™s Boy. Joey died February 1, 2022, while sleeping in his barracks at Fort Hood. Several indicators contributed to his death including a toxic and hostile leadership, prescription drug interaction, depression, and anxiety. His heart was extremely enlarged due to the environment, mental stress, and the drugs. This was preventable and intervention could have saved his life. He is buried at Forest Park in The Woodlands 18000 Interstate 45 S. and visitors are encouraged to visit his gravesite. A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier's family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect. A penny means you visited. A nickel means you and the deceased veteran trained at boot camp together. A dime means you and the deceased veteran served together in some capacity.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-13
if God has given us capabilities and gifts, we should put them to use for the good of others โ€œDo not be weary in doing what is right.โ€ Donโ€™t get sick of doing good. Keep on keeping on in doing good things. Never stop lifting those around you up if you can. Donโ€™t ever give up on doing good. Do whatever good you can, whenever you can, wherever you can, in whatever ways you can โ€” even if you donโ€™t have to.โ€ Stand firm, and you will win life. Luke 21:19 This is the motto his mother, Margie Taylor lives by since her son died. Never Forgotten
โ€œSome people make your laugh a little louder, your smile a little brighter, and your life a little better. Joey was loved by soldiers, good friends, and family. He made our life better!โ€

My faith is stronger than ever. I feel Joey's presence with me often but especially through the month of November- our favorite month and Joey's birthday.

The "dark months" of November especially the 16th with his birthday, Thanksgiving, December, and through the anniversary of Joey's death Feb. 1. I cannot fully describe the pain of losing my youngest son and having to be thick skinned with my mission to get accountability and save lives.

Someone has to do this. Joey will never experience a wife, children, or make anyone smile again. All we have are photos and memories. Many other families have lost their military children for issues that no one wants to talk about. I am THAT MAMA that will not tolerate this.

So you see a tough exterior, but it is protection to keep up the battle however long it takes. I am a warrior for my son and others that went before him. The more people that shout to update medical protocals the safer our military (all branches) will be so they can defend our country,

Military need thorough annual physicals, eliminate the prescribing of medications without lab work, and make mental health counseling a priority. So many simple things will save many lives and prevent another parent, wife, husband or children from going through the pain of losing their loved one for fully preventable reasons.

A message I received from Joeyโ€™s close โ€œbattle buddyโ€™sโ€ family:

โ€œI took my kids to the grocery store the other day, and my son Kam, came up to me with the Hersheyโ€™s cookies and cream chocolate bar and asked me โ€œmom, can I get this Joey bar?โ€. It stopped me dead in my tracks. I asked him what he called this, and he said itโ€™s a Joey Bar. When spending so much time with Joey in Texas, he always had a cookie and cream Hersheyโ€™s bar, and the giant kind lol. It touched me so much that my son said that, as he remembers Joey used to give him his chocolate bars when he came over, or always buy them one.โ€

Losing a loved one in the military is like being a pirate looking for the treasure chest filled with answers. It is not a joyful quest, but one we must complete.

No one gives you truth. You must unravel the clues to find your next clue. There is no map. I want to make the quest easier for families.

Joey is on the quest with me to help others. God has put me on this path and we will be warriors for truth.

Joey was proud to be a soldier in the Army and often sent me selfies, he never wanted to be shared publicly. But Iโ€™m glad he did!

Iโ€™m forever proud of my youngest son. Thatโ€™s all he ever wanted- approval by his family. Thatโ€™s why he never told me of the toxic environment he was subjected to from his commanding officer for over a year.

There is a lot wrong at . The story is about to come out nationally.

Letโ€™s work together to be Joeyโ€™s Army to

My boy forever.

Grief never vanishes. It folds into your life.

Your memory sends triggers that stop you suddenly and you shed a tear. Thatโ€™s not weakness. Thatโ€™s love. โค๏ธ

These guys!

Friends for 22 years! This was taken when Joey was about 15. They played football together at Willis High School. All 3 guys were pallbearers at Joey Lenzโ€™s memorial service.

A person that loses a partner is called a widow. A child that loses a parent is called an orphan. But there is no word to describe a parent that loses a child, because the loss is like no other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joey lived. He lived on the edge of life everyday. To know Joey brings a smile as he was the guy that wanted everyone around him to laugh.
He liked cuddling up with a cozy blanket and our dog or his cat on the couch. His favorite food was Cheese, and Macaroni and Cheese. He generally drank too much with a preference for Fireball Wh***ey.
Joey totaled many cars. One of Jeffโ€™s, several of his, and my PT Cruiser- that we gave to him and was paid off. He was not a good driver and took risks that got himself in many minor altercations. He never hurt another person.
Joey enjoyed disc golf as a new hobby. He played by himself or with soldiers and friends. Joey was an avid skateboarder and rode the course many times on base at Fort Hood. During Covid he was told it was off limits- but Joey did it anyway and ended up fracturing his wrist.
Joey absolutely loved his nieces. If given a choice between hanging out with adults or playing with Willa and Elle- well the choice was simple. He always wanted to be a dad more than anything.
Joey loved kids!
He didnโ€™t lose his life by taking a risk. He lost his life through over medication, a massive heart attack, and medical malpractice at Fort Hood while sleeping in his barracks. This has got to stop.
Like the tiger, Joey Lenz was bold and lived each day with passion.
Joey loved South Korea. His next tour was scheduled to be there.
He gave everyone his smile and made their life better. Today he is by my mother's side reassuring her they will both always be with me.
