Today I had the honor and privilege of delivering a keynote speech at the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Tarrant County’s Scholarship Banquet.
The NPHC’s commitment to lifting up the next generation of leaders is inspiring — thank you for the opportunity and for all you continue to do for our community.

Dr. Jason Shelton is running for the Arlington City Council Place 8 At-Large seat. A Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for African American Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, he has spent nearly 18 years mentoring students and fostering dialogue around leadership, service, and inclusion. He also served five years as chair of the Arlington Unity Council.
In this conversation, we discuss his upcoming runoff election, his years of service at UTA and in the Arlington community, and his vision for a city led by people who are ready to meet the moment.

Last week, I had the honor of speaking at the Goodman Elementary School 6th Grade Graduation (AISD). I reminded the students that with education, determination, and belief in themselves, there are no limits to what they can achieve.

Over the weekend, I received the very sad news that former Grand Prairie City Council Member Ed Hemphill had passed away. Mr. Hemphill was the second African American elected to the Grand Prairie City Council, serving from 1990 to 1994. He was a dedicated leader whose service and impact on our community will not be forgotten.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.
