Cable management is an overlooked part of long gun setup. Sometimes you can't go direct clicky cap or reach the LAM, so switches are needed.

I've used a few methods and solutions over the years depending on my desires for the particular setup. Tape, zip ties, ranger bands, grip wraps, etc... served as temporary solutions until I found what worked for that setup. More permanent and refined solutions are available and ones that serve multi-purpose are a nice touch.

Enter the PCM (Panel, Cable Management) co-developed by Forward Controls Design and Tactical Night Vision Company in September 2020. I've seen the doodle by Nyx Nocturnal Solutions and it was cool to witness the life cycle of a product from initial idea to production.

The PCM is a refined MLOK based solution and securely locks the cables in the desired position, so they are immobile and cannot be yanked. The design allows cables to be routed at various angles and even a full 180 to secure those super long cables that sometimes come with devices. See the example photos (mine and from product page).

The PCM comes in 3 sizes: Standard, L, and XL (1, 2, 3 MLOK slots). I have multiple of all 3 sizes and in my experience each size allows for slightly different routing ability, so I recommend that you mix and match depending on your wants and available MLOK space.

The PCM is machined aluminum and dimple textured for traction, so they multi-function as a heatsink grip panel. The panels have always felt cooler than the hand guard in my use experience. You can see in my example setups that the PCM served as my entire right side grip panel.

The FCD product page has several more examples of how the panel can be used. Head there for more details.

https://www.forwardcontrolsdesign.com/pcm-panel-cable-management.html

TL;DR If I'm using switches and there are MLOK slots, I'm using the PCM.

M1 Carbines and Seiko watches
MACV-SOG and the US "Secret War"

A few years ago my dad nostalgically told me that his preferred r***e from serving as a guerilla fighter in the CIA's "Secret War" during the VN conflict was the M1 Carbine. Dad was probably around 15-17 years old (younger?) when he was conscripted.

Dad being dad, embellished his use of the M1C and claimed that he could shoot the eye of a bird at 1,000 yards (in the jungle...). OK, Dad. 🙄😒🤣

I acquired a few M1 Carbines and gave one to him. Both were WWII era r***es based on the markings. I intend to mod mine as I usually do. I've already swapped my OG stock for service grade and applied an Ultimak scout mount. Both have clamp on muzzle attachments for funsies.

During my recent watch quest sh00terboy introduced me to the Seiko SNK381 as an unintentional and spiritual clone of the Seikos used by MACV-SOG during the Secret War. Watches.of.Espionage ♠️ and have published works deep diving into the topic if you want solid reads. I think it matches the 6119-8100 the most.

I showed dad photos and he said "it looked right" but he wasn't sure and just remembered the big numbers. The large numbers and automatic movement are practical features considering Dad is of the sight-limited age and I'd rather that he not have to deal with batteries. The numbers and hands are also phosphorescent. Great! I bought two to go with the M1Cs.

Sang Nguyen donated a fancy baby cow strap for this project. Dad opted to keep the metal band (OG Asians like the shiny stuff), so the leather band is on mine.

What's funny is the r***es were acquired in 2023 and till this day, Dad has declined all range day invitations. I don't intend to make him prove his 1,000 yard prowess but just run the gun, Dad. 🤣

This isn't as cool as 9mm.musashi and his watch posts but nothing I do is as cool as what he does.

That's all I've got. Thanks for joining me on this fi***rm-related post about my personal life.

Is your Aimpoint ACRO pattern in spec?

The Forward Controls Design OPF-G6, ACRO plate product page has an excellent breakdown of considerations for the ACRO pattern and contains a snippet of the ACRO drawing to show critical areas (Photo 2).

https://www.forwardcontrolsdesign.com/OPF-G6-ACRO-G***k-Gen-6-ACRO-plate_p_685.html

Cuts and plates vary in spec and materials (even at the OEMs), which can create issues of zero shift or the clamp failing completely. Note the Steiner MPS uses the ACRO pattern and it is NOT a different pattern (confirmed by Steiner). BOTH call for STEEL to be used as the plate material. FCD adheres to the ACRO drawing and opted for 17-4 SS, nitride.

For plates to be effective the design must consider the host platform specs in addition to the optic pattern specs. Any deviation from these specs in critical areas creates opportunities for failure. The dovetail and clamp specs are the most critical portions for this pattern. (Photos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

The Gen 6 ORS contains a rear locking tab that is uniquely shaped. It isn't just shelf for plates to sit on. FCD recognizes this detail and incorporates a pocket in their Gen 6 plates to engage the tab and prevent plate movement. This feature requires that the plate is indexed at the tab before seating. The lockup is so secure that (without fasteners) my sample did not fall out when turned upside down and shaken. (Photos 6, 7, 8, 9)

Speaking of fasteners, FCD opted to use the M4 holes as it is larger than the 6-32. The selected fasteners are rated for 140K PSI in tensile strength (damn, son). The plate was designed to fully support the M4's 90-degree countersink (recessed flush) VS chasing the lowest deck height. I agree with not sacrificing interface integrity on potentially life-saving equipment. (Photos 10, 11, 12, 13)

The Gen 6 ORS cut depth is higher than direct milled options, so this combo will sit above the slide. The sample Ameriglo GL-429 shown is too low to co-witness. You will need 3XL or higher irons to suit your preferences (2XL for MPS). The FCD product page has an irons compatibility resource available. (Photos 14, 15, 16, 17)

Forward Controls Design OPF-G6, ACRO plate for G***k Gen 6.

17-4 PH SS, black nitride for superior corrosion resistance and hardness.

Adherence to OEM specs of both the host fi***rm and optic maker matter.

There are many considerations (especially with the ACRO pattern) that I will get into in a more detailed post later but I wanted to highlight the plate to slide fitment for your visuals.

If it feels real, is it really LARPing? 😂
Vintage Banana Republic safari vest.

One variation of the many used by operatives from the era. Many photos and write-ups referencing Delta, SF, CIA, FBI, private contractors, etc. are available on the internet. Other brands also had their own varieties. The lore is cool, so look them up if you're interested.

The earlier versions had different features and go as far back as when Hong Kong was still under the British crown, which was referenced in the manufacturer tag.

My example is a later version with "Made in China" tag, so not as cool but still period correct and I prefer the pocket layout.

I'll probably run this with various era inspired gats, which won't be clone correct, so expect the rheeeeee!

Cross-draw, comped & RMR equipped P229, Don Hume leather holster with button snaps? Yes.

EDIT: I couldn't find any photos of hoochie daddy Mike Vining with the vest to include in this post. 🥲

I wasn't going to get a Gen 6 after handling initial dealer samples but now I need samples for product demos.

Anyways, the LOP is considerably shorter on the G6. On the G5, I don't run any backstraps (sampling Kiral on some) but change the trigger shoe for ergos as the OEM bothered my finger.

On the G6, I use the Large backstrap but don't feel the need to change the revised OEM shoe. I have the equivalent LOP with this config. I will modify the tip of the shoe, however. G***k decided to include little fangs at the bottom that dig into my finger on depression. It is the reason why I dislike the Agency Arms shoe.

Grip texture is adequate, albeit not as aggressive compared to competing fi****ms. I may or may not apply tape later.

Mag release is extended, so I don't feel the need to swap to the TangoDown / Vickers version like I normally do.

Undercut is nice but I didn't mind the lack of it before either. The grip itself reminds me of the more bulbous Gen 3 large frame non-SF models but applied to standard frames.

Connector is dot and the trigger pull is closer to a G34 or minus connector rolling break with a slight wall. I can stage but there's not a super defined wall. Trigger feels like a G***k variation and my sample was smooth. I didn't get the grit that some have reported. I don't feel a need to change or clean it up.

It's a G***k. 😂

FCD Gen 6 plates in-bound for RMR, ACRO, and DPP patterns, so I can sample current and future optic offerings. FCD uses OEM pattern drawings and adheres to their specs, so I can eliminate the plate being the issue.

Reminder that optic maker products vary in specs even if they are using known patterns, and it is important that you understand what you are getting.

I appreciate Forward Controls Design decision to go 17-4 SS with nitride. The hardness and corrosion resistance is what I'm looking for in defensive use configurations. FCD uses Trijicon's drawings to ensure spec as intended by Trijicon.

It's no wonder why Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics considers FCD's optic plates as the "gold standard". If FCD has a plate available for my application, I'll use it.

I have the Gen 6 varieties and will be covering those later. Currently, RMR and ACRO are available with the DPP pattern coming out soon.

LMK if you have any questions or share your own experiences.

Trijicon, Inc. MRO HD
Reticle flickering issue identified for circle dot settings 3-6 (so far) on my buddy's optic.

It's common enough to have multiple accounts reported on the interwebs. Sharing as PSA.

It's not the battery as I've swapped between multiple Duracell and Energizer from different packs. Could be the contacts or the brain.

Either way, Trijicon's warranty is solid. RMA submitted and pending response.

If you've experienced this, lmk what you experienced and outcome.
