Today marks five years since I've represented Council District 14 on the Dallas Park and Recreation Board.
It's no secret I pour my heart into this work. I believe down to my bones that we deserve nice things in our city, and public parks are the beating heart of that. Every single project we've completed together, big or small, is a testament to what happens when neighbors continue to advocate, work hard, and dedicate themselves to one undeniable truth: when we fight for our parks, we get stronger neighborhoods, a better quality of life, and communities we actually want to live in.
Just look at a few of the things we've accomplished in the past year together:
β
Delivered our first of five new playgrounds and major athletic field renovations at Friends of Willis Winters Park.
β
Opened a brand-new dog park with Downtown Dallas Parks Conservancy at Civic Garden.
β
Breathed new life into a preservation project with the Junius Heights Historic District at our Abrams Road Triangles.
β
Installed new art funded by the University Crossing Public Improvement District at Glencoe Park and new art along Turtle Creek with the Turtle Creek Association.
β
Installed new playground amenities at Lindsley Park thanks to donations from the Hollywood / Santa Monica Neighborhood Association - HSMNA.
β
Added a standalone shade structure at Craddock Park with the help of the Perry Heights Neighborhood Association.
β
Saw tremendous, long-awaited progress on the design of the brand new Exall Recreation Center with the Friends of Exall Park.
And we are not slowing down. This coming year will be packed with even more progress our communities deserve:
π Deliver our next three new playgrounds at Friends of Tietze Park, Cochran Heights Neighborhood Association, and Friends of Exall Park.
π Improvements to our beloved Friends of Santa Fe Trail and The Katy Trail
π Progress to major projects along Turtle Creek with the Turtle Creek Association and Turtle Creek Conservancy.
π A brand new sand volleyball court funded by Uptown Dallas, Inc. at Griggs Park.
π And my absolute top priority: driving a massive, game-changing and transformational project at Tenison Park.
Of course, none of this happens by itself. I thank City of Dallas - District 14 Council Member Paul Ridley every day for continuing to trust in letting me represent the good people of our district. And also to my beloved Dallas Park and Recreation Department for powering through every obstacle under the sun to continue delivering for the people. Your grit doesn't go unnoticed.
And lastly, to every one of you who never ever gave up on your public parks! Thank you! β₯π³
