Style: French Eclectic; Subtype: Symmetrical

Dallas, Texas; ca. 1917. Lewis-Aldredge House; Henry B. Thomson, architect.

The historic Aldredge House Museum, built in 1917, is a stunning French Eclectic example that has been kept in pristine condition under the stewardship of two local organizations. The Dallas County Medical Society Alliance Foundation has owned, operated, and preserved the house as its headquarters for over 50 years. Friends of Aldredge House has supported that vision since 2017 by opening the space to the public and hosting educational programs.

We love that these groups not only preserve the home, but also embrace and share its history with programming for the community! Each month the Friends of Aldredge House host free Living History tours with costumed, volunteer actors. Guests are transported in time as they tour Aldredge House Museum and learn more about the early days of Dallas and the individuals who lived and worked in the home. A 1917 Packard parked in the driveway completes the ambience. They also run the Heritage Book Club with four book selections per year that delve into Texas history.

The Aldredge House Museum is registered as a National Landmark, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and a contributing structure of the Swiss Avenue Historic District. Virginia Savage McAlester, the author of A Field Guide to American Houses, played a key role in protecting the house as well as the surrounding historic district. A sculpture was installed in the garden in her honor.

So, next time you're in Dallas, make a plan to tour the gorgeous, historic Aldredge House Museum! In the meantime, we encourage you to look up and visit a museum house in your neighborhood.

Il Concerto delle donne
Saturday, September 21, 2024 ~ Aldredge House
The Consort of Ladies, inspired by the Three Ladies of Ferrara, the first group of well-born ladies making up a performing ensemble, which leads directly to the ensemble singing in Monteverdi and the Seconda Practica. We will concentrate on works of that composer, as well as Luzzasco Luzzaschi and Barbara Strozzi, culminating in the incredibly powerful works of Handel. Our soloists will be the brilliant young singers featured recently by DBS, including Taylor Fenner and Kara McBain, sopranos, and Lauren Salazar, alto.

Nestled in the heart of Dallas, the historic Aldredge House is the headquarters of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance Foundation and is a place where history, education, and community service converge. Each year, the alliance and the Dallas County Medical Society offer an impressive line-up of speakers on medical and other relevant topics. As part of its community outreach, the Dallas alliance is proud of its scholarship program, which has given more than $750,000 to support nursing students. https://hubs.li/Q02zgS6-0
