New furniture for the Richardson Public Library has arrived as renovation work on the Arapaho Road facility continues.

Crews are currently assembling book shelving on the top floor of the library.

Renovations throughout the building continue including ongoing work on mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, ceilings, finishes and permanent fixtures. Crews are also working on the library’s interior stairways as spaces begin to take shape.

The renovations are part of the voter-approved 2021 Bond Program; completion is expected, with a grand re-opening in early fall.

Starting today, Arts organizations serving the Richardson community are invited to apply for the City’s Arts Initiative Grants.

Deadline to submit applications is Thursday, July 30, by 5 p.m.

Arts Initiative grants are for special opportunities that are not included in an organization’s normal budget process or regular programming. They are awarded in addition to the yearly cultural arts grants that are recommended by the Cultural Arts Commission.

Overnight road closures are coming to US 75 next week beginning Thursday to allow construction crews to install new bridge enhancements for DART’s recently constructed Silver Line commuter rail route.

Anyone traveling near the area just south of the President George Bush Turnpike may have noticed the large bridge components now staged nearby. These pieces are scheduled to be installed beginning Thursday as part of a two-phase operation. The first phase is scheduled to take place Thursday through Sunday next week, with the second phase currently planned for July.

Construction activities will require overnight closures of all US 75 main lanes in both directions, with detours impacting surrounding roadways. Rolling closures are also planned along Renner Road as crews install the south-side arch section of the Silver Line bridge crossing over US 75.
