Thank you, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts! I filed HB1681 last session to eliminate the double tax on marketplace providers. One transaction shouldn’t be taxed 2x. Glad to see momentum behind this effort to make Texas taxes fairer. Now we need to get rid of the inventory tax on food & medicine.

Comptroller Don Huffines today signed an executive order to end a hidden tax on families and small businesses. It's the latest step in the Taxpayer First Project, his effort to bring fairness, transparency & consistency to Texas tax administration.

Seven of us in one room. Bamboo and mud walls, no kitchen, no bathroom.

That was my childhood in Taiwan, after my parents fled Communist China for the freedom to practice their faith. When money is that tight, every dollar is a decision, and some of those decisions are ones no family should have to make. I remember that every time I look at a grocery receipt or a pharmacy bill here in District 112. It's why I wrote the bill to end the hidden tax Texas still charges on food and medicine, and why I'm not letting it go.

The American Dream gave me a shot at something my parents never had. I'm fighting to protect that for your family too.

"I can afford the house. I can't afford the taxes on it."

I hear that from seniors who paid off their mortgage decades ago and are still afraid of losing the place. That's why I fought to raise the homestead exemption to $200,000 for Texans 65 and older.

Across much of Texas, a senior in a modest home now owes nothing in school
property taxes at all.

Staying in the home you built your life in shouldn't be a luxury.

We’re in Rowlett today, hearing directly from neighbors about what matters most to them. One concern keeps coming up: the cost of living.

High grocery prices and property taxes are stretching family budgets. I’m working to lower the cost of essential items like food and medicine and help Texans keep more of their hard-earned money. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts with us today.

Your child can download almost any app in about four seconds. Until recently, you'd
never know it happened.

That's why I sponsored the App Store Accountability Act. App stores now have to verify age and get a parent's consent before a minor downloads anything, social media included.

We check ID to buy alcohol. Our kids deserve at least that much protection online.

Parents should be in charge here. Not an algorithm.

There's a tax on your groceries that never shows up on your receipt.

Texas is one of the last states that still taxes business inventory, and that includes the food on the shelf and the medicine at the pharmacy counter. It gets passed straight to you at checkout.

I'm a CPA. I looked into it, I wrote the bill to end it, and I'm not letting go of it.

Rising prices are hard enough without hidden ones.

Ask me why I take freedom so seriously and I'll tell you about a one-room hut.

Seven of us, bamboo and mud walls, after my parents fled Communism for Taiwan. I came to America at 24 for graduate school. This country let me earn the rest. Freedom isn't a slogan I picked up in politics. It's the thing my family lost and America handed back.

I'd be honored to keep fighting for it in Austin.

Too many families feel it every year: the tax bill on the home you worked so hard for keeps climbing. It shouldn't be that way.

As a CPA, cutting your taxes isn't a talking point for me, it's what I've delivered every session. When I was first elected, the homestead exemption on your school taxes was just $15,000. Today it's $140,000, and our seniors are now exempt on $200,000 of their home's value. That's real money back in your pocket.

But we’re not done. Rising assessments have pushed property tax bills higher for years. I will keep working to improve accountability in the appraisal process, hold the line on tax rates, and deliver lasting relief. Your home should be a place of security, never a bill you’re afraid to open.

Keeping our families and neighborhoods safe will always be one of my highest priorities.

That's why I voted to let judges deny bail to the most dangerous offenders, those charged with murder, sexual assault, kidnapping, and human trafficking, so violent criminals can't just post bond and walk free to hurt someone else. Texans overwhelmingly agreed, approving that reform at the ballot box.

And I voted to end parole eligibility for sexual predators and child traffickers, so those who prey on the innocent, especially our children, serve their full sentence instead of getting an early release.

Victims and law-abiding Texans deserve a justice system that puts them first. That's exactly what I'll keep fighting for.
