The Dallas Police Department Police Memorial Day Service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 12:00 noon in front of the Police Memorial Wall located across from City Hall. To honor those who serve as law enforcement officers, congress created the Peace Officer Memorial Day in 1961. President John F. Police Officer Thomas Burchfield and Police Officer Michael Okelberry were killed when their patrol car was struck head-on by a pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction.

Officer Burchfield had served with the Dallas Police Department for one year. He is survived by his fiancée, parents, two brothers, and sister.
