Our young engineers designed and built ziplines from recycled materials, then tested their creations and made adjustments to see which could go the fastest, move the smoothest or carry the most weight. 🛠️💡

Spots are still available! 🔬💻 Got questions about college STEM majors, classes, labs, making friends and finding internships? Hear from UTD students about what college STEM life is like and what they wish they’d known before freshman year!

Then, put STEM into action with a hands-on Arduino engineering workshop! 🧠⚙️ We will build and program our own reaction time tester using sensors and basic coding, while learning how reaction time tests can help doctors understand how the nervous system is working.

📚 Our New Non-Resident Library Card Fee is Now in Effect

Garland Public Libraries now charges a $50 annual fee for library cards for patrons living outside our service area.

Library cards remain free for residents of Mesquite, Plano, Richardson, Rowlett, Sachse and Wylie.

Garland residents support Garland Public Libraries through local taxes. The fee helps ensure that residents of other communities contribute toward the library services and resources available with a Garland library card.

A library card isn’t required to enjoy many of our services! 💙Everyone is welcome to visit Garland Public Libraries, browse our collections, use our public spaces, attend most programs and ask staff for assistance.

After a busy summer, we took a brief programming break in August to prepare for an exciting fall season at Garland Public Libraries! But our libraries still stayed busy with readers, learners, families and friends! 💚✨ We celebrated the opening of the Seed Library at West Garland Library, welcomed local writers to Curiosity Fest, crafted cozy book nooks and gathered for book clubs throughout the month. 📖🌱✂️

Here’s a look at our August stats:
📚 47,074 physical checkouts
📱 37,654 digital checkouts
👋 36,388 visitors
🪪 1,060 new library card signups
🎉 3,172 program attendees
🚐 485 outreach connections
