An affidavit is a sworn statement used in legal and business matters, but mistakes can delay your notarization. Make sure everything goes smoothly by following these steps:

✔ Bring a Valid ID – Driver’s license, passport, or state ID (not expired!)
✔ Complete, But Don’t Sign Yet – Fill in the affidavit, but sign only in front of me
✔ Be Ready to Swear or Affirm – You must formally declare that the statements are true under penalty of perjury

✔ Know Your Loan Documents – You should review all paperwork in advance with your lender or escrow officer. A notary cannot explain loan terms.
✔ All Parties Must Be Present – If multiple people are signing (such as spouses or co-borrowers), everyone must be present with their own valid ID.
✔ Sign in Front of the Notary – Do NOT sign anything before the notary arrives. Signatures must be witnessed in person to be legally valid.
