We’re excited to share some great news...
We won! At last night’s ULI DFW Impact Awards, the “1 to 8 in International Residential Code (IRC)” initiative received the coveted Impact Award in the Next Big Idea category. While we’re honored by the recognition, we’re even more excited by what this ordinance means for the future of housing in Dallas.
The 1-to-8 in IRC allows up to eight units to be built under the International Residential Code. Dallas was the first city to adopt this transformative ordinance. This is a meaningful step toward addressing Missing Middle Housing and expanding attainable housing options across Dallas.
We’re also proud that two additional efforts (Dallas Parking Reform and the South Dallas Fair Park Area Plan) were recognized as finalists.
These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the many partners, advocates, and collaborators who supported these initiatives every step of the way. Thank you for your leadership, persistence, and belief in what’s possible.

Originally known as Wahoo Park, the land for Juanita J. Craft Park was first purchased in 1924. Between 1936 and 1938, the city improved the site by building different properties to complete the grounds.
It was then officially renamed in Juanita J. Craft's honor on February 10, 1974. Known as the “first lady of Dallas civil rights”, Juanita J. Craft fought to desegregate parks, theaters, and restaurants and ensure that all Dallas residents could enjoy these spaces.
Today, the park is a 21.5-acre space that includes basketball courts, fields, trails, and serves as gathering for programs for all Dallas residents.
