15 Facts

The following fifteen (15) facts are intended to shed light on the truth regarding undocumented immigrants, and as a response to the false rhetoric (deceit and lies) that is being spread by far-right media affiliates and politicians, and President Trump’s June 16, 2015, statement to kick off his presidential campaign, when he stated:

“When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Facts:

1. Billionaires and large federal government contractors (closely connected to this Administration, who are part of a select group of former ICE executives) are the only ones benefiting from the current Administration through the receipt of lucrative deals to build massive detention facilities and processing locations to provide the infrastructure to support ICE’s increased immigration-related enforcement activities. For everyone else, you have only received higher prices for goods in return for your vote.

2. Most white, black, brown, and Asian people (Mainstream America), including many current and former ICE employees, are not in support of this Administration requiring our law enforcement personnel to target and arrest undocumented non-criminal offenders. We know that we are better served as taxpayers by having the agents target and arrest criminals who pose a threat to our communities and national security.

3. The Administration has already shown that they will not hesitate to deploy our military forces against immigrants and U.S. Citizens on American soil when, instead they should use them on foreign soil to combat transnational criminal organizations, especially those that continue to traffic Fentanyl and Methamphetamine into the United States, which is far more important and more in line with our military’s sworn duties.

4. The Administration's use of our law enforcement personnel to target and arrest undocumented non-criminal offenders will lead to a shortage of labor to support our agriculture and hard labor jobs (often dangerous work), and result in negative economic consequences, which will drive up the cost of goods even more.

5. The vast majority of undocumented immigrants are not criminals. Over 95 percent of them come to the United States only to seek employment or accompany a family member who is seeking employment (search for a better life), and less than one percent (613 per 100,000) of them are incarcerated for committing a crime. Nonetheless, the media, many of our politicians, and some of my former colleagues continuously frame it as if undocumented immigrants pose a danger to our communities. The fact is that U.S. citizens pose a greater threat because they are 33 to 47 percent (depending on which study you are reading) more likely to be incarcerated for committing a crime. I don’t know about any of you, but I’m more concerned with criminals involved in the January 6th Insurrection and the Epstein Island scandal.

6. Undocumented immigrants are not taking American jobs away from U.S. Citizens. The vast majority of the jobs they are filling (approximately 70 percent) are jobs that U.S. Citizens do not want to fill, because the work often involves field work, hard labor, and/or dangerous work.

7. Undocumented immigrants are not overrunning our country. They make up only 4 to 5 percent of our population. Yet, this Administration is going out of its way to round them up like cattle to remove them from the country and has returned to the practice of heartlessly separating and removing families.

8. The designation of English as our country’s official language truly serves no legitimate purpose except to create more division amongst Americans and a blueprint to discriminate against those who do not speak English fluently.

9. Immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, contribute to our economy (some studies show billions of dollars) and are not necessarily a drain on resources.

10. Our country was founded and built by undocumented immigrants (early ancestors/settlers did not have papers) who came here in search of a better life. It’s what makes our country great and unique, and why we take pride in being the melting pot.

11. Our U.S. population is largely composed of descendants of immigrants who consistently contribute to our nation’s economy, culture, and social fabric. It is contrary to our country’s long-standing traditions to try to change this, unless you are a hypocrite to the American way.

12. The rest of the world, including Pope Leo XIV, is in disagreement with our current President, his administration, and many Americans because of our inhumane and insensitive handling of the immigrant population (e.g., opening of Alligator Alcatraz). This is also why FIFA is now threatening to relocate the 2026 World Cup games from the United States to Canada, which should be a wake-up call for all of us.

13. Predictably, we are now seeing an uptick in violent acts being committed against our federal law enforcement officers. Sadly, this Administration couldn’t care less about their safety. All they care about is their political agenda, aimed at reducing our immigrant population by increasing the number of arrests this year to one million. This is causing our officers to work tirelessly for long hours, six to seven days each week. Besides being physically draining, it’s putting them in harm's way more often than necessary, which increases their chances of experiencing a violent altercation. This problem will worsen unless we see a sudden change in philosophy from this Administration. The safety of our officers and citizens should always take precedence over any political agenda.

14. This President and his administration are taking actions to reverse one of America’s founding principles and long-held rights - birthright citizenship. This should be very concerning to all Americans.

15. This Administration is taking actions to withdraw the Naturalized Citizenship of some who have met all the legal qualifications and achieved citizenship in this country per the Immigration and Nationality Act, Title 8 of the U.S. Code. Call this what this is – illegal, blatant discrimination to deter immigrants from applying for citizenship, to prevent them from voting in future elections.
