The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) warns that although Isaias is now a post-tropical storm, dangerous weather conditions continue across North and Central Georgia through Sunday.

🚨 𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗦:

💨 Strong Winds: Gusts of 35–45 mph, occasionally reaching 60 mph in North Georgia.
🌧️ Flooding: Heavy rain and flash flooding remain threats, with additional rainfall of 1–3 inches possible.
🌪️ Tornadoes: Quick-developing tornadoes remain possible.
🌳 Downed Trees & Power Outages: Strong winds and saturated ground increase these risks.
⚠️ High Wind Warnings and Flash Flood Watches remain in effect for affected areas through Sunday morning.

Low-flying aircraft this October may be helping protect wildlife! USDA is distributing oral rabies vaccine baits for raccoons in parts of 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻, 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗿, 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆, 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 counties to help prevent the spread of rabies.

🚁 Helicopter drops were scheduled to begin around October 7, including Dalton and Tunnel Hill.
✈️ Airplane drops are scheduled to begin around October 20. Aerial drops are expected to last about one week.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗶𝘁? These small, fish-scented packets contain liquid vaccine.
• Leave it alone for wildlife.
• If you must move an intact bait, use gloves or a towel, place it in nearby woods or brush, and wash your hands.
• Don’t take a bait from your pet’s mouth—you could be bitten. Eating several baits may cause stomach upset.
• If you touch the liquid vaccine, wash immediately and contact your local health department.

⚠️ National Preparedness Month — Week 3: Know Your Risks & Stay Informed

Being prepared starts with knowing what can happen where you live and knowing where to get reliable information when it does.

Here in Whitfield County and Northwest Georgia, emergencies can take many forms—from severe weather and flooding to winter storms, extreme heat, power outages, and hazardous materials incidents.

This week, take a few minutes to make sure you know your risks and have multiple ways to receive emergency information.

🌪️ Severe Weather — Tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, hail, and lightning can develop quickly. Know where you will shelter before a warning is issued.

🌧️ Flooding — Never drive through a flooded roadway. Water may be deeper or moving faster than it appears, and the roadway underneath may be damaged.

❄️ Winter Weather — Snow and ice can make travel hazardous and cause power outages. Keep supplies at home and avoid unnecessary travel when conditions deteriorate.

☀️ Extreme Heat — Heat can become dangerous quickly. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on those who may be especially vulnerable.

⚠️ Other Emergencies — Hazardous materials incidents, prolonged power outages, transportation accidents, and other emergencies can also require you to shelter in place or evacuate.

📱 Have Multiple Ways to Receive Warnings — Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts enabled on your phone, use trusted weather apps, have a NOAA Weather Radio, and sign up for Whitfield County's ReGroup emergency notification system.
