I’m excited that we were able to approve Wise County’s new Adopt-A-Road Program in Commissioners Court this week!

Our four precincts maintain 985 miles of county roads, and that number continues to grow. We simply don’t have the manpower or resources to routinely pick up litter along all those roadways.

This new program gives us a great opportunity to partner with residents, businesses and community organizations who want to help keep Wise County clean, while allowing our Road and Bridge crews to stay focused on maintaining our roads, bridges and drainage.

I’m looking forward to seeing our communities get involved!

Commissioners voted to establish an Adopt-a-County Road program on Tuesday to help reduce littering along Wise County streets.

CR 3381 Bridge Replacement Update

Today marks three weeks since we closed CR 3381 in the Paradise/Cottondale area to begin replacing the old bridge structure.

If you remember, this project involved removing four large railroad tank car culverts that were constantly getting clogged with debris during flooding and replacing them with a new 55-foot free-span bridge.

What we didn’t know when we started this project was that TxDOT would begin the intersection safety improvements at FM 51 and FM 2123 just one week later.

I know CR 3381 is an important alternate route for traffic trying to avoid that intersection construction, so we’ve been working closely with our bridge contractor to get this project completed as quickly as possible.

Today, we’re pouring the concrete bridge deck!

At this point, we’re anticipating having the bridge completed and the roadway reopened within the next six weeks, which would put us approximately a month ahead of our original schedule.

Take a look at these pictures showing just how much has been accomplished in the last three weeks. From removing the old culverts and setting the bridge beams to preparing the deck for concrete, a lot of work has taken place in a short amount of time.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while this roadway is closed. We’re looking forward to getting it reopened and having a much better structure in place that will allow floodwater and debris to flow freely underneath the roadway.

Update: 12:30pm 9/29 the notice has been lifted.

PSA- BOIL WATER NOTICE – ALL WEST WISE SUD CUSTOMERS

West Wise Special Utility District has issued a boil water notice for ALL customers due to an 8-inch water main break.

Customers should boil water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, etc. at a vigorous rolling boil for two minutes before use, or use bottled water.

Lake Road, Pleasant View and FM 920: Customers in these areas will be without water until repairs are completed.

West Wise SUD is also asking customers to reduce or turn off all unnecessary water use, including sprinklers and irrigation, until the leak is repaired and the system is pressured back up.

West Wise SUD will notify customers when the boil water notice has been lifted.

Work has started on the TxDOT safety improvement project at FM 2123 and FM 51.

The project will add turn lanes and a traffic signal at the intersection. Similar improvements are also planned at FM 2048 and FM 51, and FM 2048 and FM 730.

Wise County has advocated for these improvements, and it’s good to see them moving forward. Construction is scheduled to continue through summer or fall 2027, so please slow down, use caution and watch for workers and changing traffic patterns

Paradise/Cottondale Road Closure

Please plan accordingly. County Road 3381 will be closed beginning September 17th for bridge construction.

The closure will be just south of the intersection of CR 3381 and CR 3386, in the floodplain.

The existing structure consists of four culverts that are constantly being blocked by debris during flooding. This has become an ongoing maintenance issue and, when the culverts are blocked, water can back up and overtop the roadway, causing erosion and threatening the integrity of the road.

We will be removing the existing culvert system and replacing it with a 50-foot free-span bridge over the creek. This should allow floodwater and debris to pass underneath much more freely and provide a long-term solution at this location.

The road closure is anticipated to last approximately four months. Please plan ahead and use an alternate route during construction.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while we make this much-needed improvement to CR 3381.
