🔒 It’s Gun Storage Check Week 🔒

From June 1–7, we recognize and encourage all firearm owners to take a moment to review their storage practices.

Whether your firearm is on your person, in your home, or in your vehicle, safe storage is essential. Properly securing fi****ms helps prevent accidents, unauthorized access, and theft.

In Colorado, safe firearm storage is not only a responsible practice—it’s the law.

Take a look at the graphic below for examples of safe storage options and help keep our community safe.

Looks like we might have severe weather across Adams County later!

Keep an eye on these storms, especially if you’re in the Watkins/Bennett/Strasburg areas!

Scattered thunderstorms will develop along the I-25 Corridor by early afternoon and then move quickly across the plains by late afternoon into the early evening hours. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats from the storms, however, a brief tornado or two will also be possible.

Today, we pause to honor one of our own.

Investigator Danny Ralph Barnes End of Watch: May 31, 1973
Fifty-three years ago, Investigator Danny R. Barnes made the ultimate sacrifice while serving this community in an undercover capacity. On May 31, 1973, his life was cut tragically short when an intoxicated wrong-way driver struck his vehicle head-on at the I-25 and Boulder Turnpike interchange.

He was 30 years old — a husband, a father, and a dedicated public servant.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie, and their three children: Amy, Eric, and Tracy.

Investigator Barnes, your courage and commitment to this community are not lost to time. We carry your name with us — today, and always.

End of Watch: May 31, 1973 | Served: May 1, 1969 – May 31, 1973
