This is my own personal opinion, and not that of the DCSD as a whole.
A simple explanation of the School Budget Cap question that will be on the ballot in November.
Your town is your house.
You should get to decide whether your house needs a new roof.
The state shouldn't say:
"Your roof may be leaking, but we're only allowing you to spend $100 this year."
That's not saving money.
That's taking away your ability to decide how to take care of your own house.
And that's why the strongest argument against the school budget cap isn't simply "I want to spend more money."
It's:
"I trust my community to make decisions about my community."
Local control means local voters should decide what their schools need, what their community can afford, and what priorities matter most.
The state can provide funding, set educational standards, and hold schools accountable. But it shouldn't put a rigid financial handcuff on every town and pretend every community has the same needs.
Our town, our choice. Be sure to vote NO on the question.
