The Des Moines Area MPO has a regional commitment to Vision Zero. With safety at the forefront of the work we do, the MPO has developed a Comprehensive Safety Action plan and applied for a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant.

With this grant, regionally we aim to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in central Iowa starting with a $24.6 million requested to complete this overall $40.6 million program to be allocated to 16 high-priority projects across 11 cities for immediate safety impact over the next five years!

Take the DART funding study survey As a regional transit district, DART is able to levy property taxes for general local funding. The property taxes can be levied up to $0.95 per $1,000 taxable valuation. However, it is expected that by fiscal year 2025 the property tax levy will no longer be sufficient to sustain current services.
