Today, neighbors from every corner of House District 33 came together to write TWO HUNDRED postcards to their neighbors in support of our campaign. Our community needs leaders who are experienced and have a proven track record so they can lead on day one. Make sure you vote for Cody in the June 2nd primary!

I had a fantastic evening at the Spring dinner listening to fire up a room of great Democrats. I also appreciated running into and chatting about the upcoming June 2 primary election. Make sure you’re registered to vote—you can also request an absentee ballot today!

When you work in public policy in support of working people and families, it becomes easier to spot those who are in public service for the right reasons. Rep. Gaines is one of those people—her advocacy, her kindness, and her compassion set her record of service apart from many other legislators. Her legacy is one of service and integrity. Join me in congratulating Rep. Gaines on her retirement!

Congratulations and thank you to Representative Ruth Ann Gaines for Iowa 33 for 16 years of service in the Iowa House. Her real-life experience and deep knowledge in diversity, education, and health care have made a lasting impact.

Friday is off to a great start at First Friday Breakfast Club (FFBC) hearing from Kimberly Graham for Polk County Attorney about restorative justice programs in the county. Our criminal justice system in lowa works best when we focus on seeking justice and protecting lowans—programs that make it easier to navigate the system and not punish poverty make us all safer.

Des Moines—you SHOWED UP! Last night we hosted a trivia fundraiser with amazing guest hosts Liz From Iowa and Sarah Booz in the East Village. We had dozens of Iowans who are fired up to elect a leader who understands the connections between our rising cancer rates and our water quality crisis. Des Moines is ready for a new leader that has the lived experience to know how policy decisions impact the most vulnerable families in our state, and that the cost of housing, childcare, and utilities are too high. Let’s go win this on June 2nd.

On Trans Visibility Day, the US Supreme Court overturned a state’s ban on LGBTQ+ conversion therapy. Meanwhile, in our legislature the Republican supermajority is finding ways to eliminate civil rights protections for trans Iowans. For too long, our leaders have focused on culture wars and imposing their preferred way of living on others who are not like them. Iowans deserve better – they deserve leaders who are focused on improving their lives, not making them harder.
